Long time ago..
Custom dashboards, modded games, pirated games, wallhacks, whatever you want, as long as you have a hacked xbox. Not hard.

For me, it's just sad. They had tonnes of really well written security, which was all bypassed simply because their 'random number' turned out to be four. Minor blunder leading to the security on two separate consoles being blown right open.

Well, the main idea was to bring back OtherOS so that the hackers can continue running Linux on their PS3s. You'll notice that almost all the work that has been done (and released) on the PS3 with respect to hacking it was done after Sony removed OtherOS.

That's the obvious recourse. Surely Sony would be able to detect them.

Sony would have to rewrite their netcode for that to work.

Too much time and money.

The PSP has been cracked for ages, just not in this way...And not many people were actually looking for these keys until the OtherOS feature was removed (And in the PSPs case, until the PS3s keys were found out), before that most of the PS3 hackers were going for access to the RSX with OtherOS.

Whats the big deal with this master key stuff, what does it mean?
Xbox was cracked via a flaw in the OS prior to a certain version, this master key thing lets anyone create a program that runs on the PS3 or PSP that may as well have been certified by Sony.

PSP can get firmware updates...Sony couldn't really fix this issue without pretty much breaking every peripheral and all software currently...I think?

And you do realise that mnost games for the PS3 are the same size as those on the Xbox? The only games that really take advantage of the BR are the PS3 exclusives, a 500GB hard drive could probably fit most of the games people want.

Which has to be under a certain version, I wanted to do that for modded games and custom dashboards and bigger HDD support (I don't play on XBL anyway) but mine had too recent of an update.

It depends what is transmitted to PSN, if the hackers make it look exactly like the official stuff...Well, yeah.

Why do I foresee the PS4 coming out a lot faster than was originally intended?

No, there is a huge difference here. The PS3/PSP's MASTER KEY (that Sony uses to sign all games/firmwares/etc) has been released. Therefore, anyone can make their firmware/game look official without much effort.
