sony didnt get the memo about bigger sensor size vs more pixels lol
I literally cringed when I saw the MP count...

I really hope they have some great noise reduction techniques put into place there...

a cheap dslr truly would be a great idea as suggested.

but if you are more interested in a P&S because of budget i have no clue which ones are better in what areas. i remember seeing a few post that one is slightly better in low light than other. im not 100% sure but i would imagine that the flash on all P&S is about the same, maybe not though not sure.

rep all of u. thanks my budget is not over 300pounds and definitely i wont buy the samsung nx100 because after buying it i must buy better lens +200pounds and flash +100pounds and its NOT DSLR. what cam do you suggest me to buy. am not professional i just wanna take very good picture quality. another think i must state is the optical zoom plays significant role too coz in night without flash all cameras are crap. ALSO am not sure but i think all dslr are very big and i dont want that size. i wanna carry it in club in train during trip etc. i dont want a huge think hanging under my neck

Cameras without flash are not crap at night.

Shot at night, no flash, with an 8 year old DSLR.

I'd say you want a Canon S90 or S95 if it's in your budget) but beware, a better camera does not equal better images.

I'm cringing at a lot of the stuff I've read in this thread.

OP do you have any interest in photography? Or do you want to just be able to take pictures?

It sounds like the latter... for that I would suggest any canon or nikon point and shoot in the 10mp range and $150-200. You will get a good quality camera that will do all the leg work for you. It will have very good IQ. It won't make your pictures better though... practice will.

Hope that helps

You don't have to buy a better lens and flash. Truth be told, the kit lens is already much better than what any point and shoot could offer, and all onboard flashes I've used are garbage, including P&S. The "not DSLR" isn't an issue since the image sensor is the same size as DSLRs, and therefore, DSLR quality.

I'm not sure what you're doing tying optical zoom and flash together. All onboard flashes are useless as they directly flash on the subject and wash the image out, and optical zoom has nothing to do with that.

olympus EP-L1. it gives you most advantages of a DSLR but without the size. sure. it is a tad bit out of your budget 500usd (or ~320pounds)

or if you want a PS, any of the sony EXMOR R cameras (tx series or wx series).
