Is it the disc drive? Sounds more like a chainsaw.

I wonder if the cause of the RROD was inadvertently caused by the Kinect.

Our Xbox 360 RROD after we hadn't played it for a while, but had randomly started to play it heavily. So should we blame Halo 3 for our failure? On a console with a known faulty design?

So if you buy a Kinect you will be playing the Xbox 360 a lot more then you were before you bought it.

So you couldn't really blame the Kinect for the failure just Microsoft for the original consoles. (There were issues with the original's lead free solder / bending of the mainboard)

Thread Starter
You people who are saying that consoles are "supposed" to break down within a few years should work at a landfill. Electronics that have high failure rates are unnecessary e-waste that isn't biodegradable. In the end, you carry the selfish mentality of hurting the environment for your own entertainment.

It's disgusting how wasteful some of you are. You should feel ashamed of yourselves.

The RROD was Microsoft's attempt to limit gaming time. Its a feature. You shouldn't play to much!

Same, I'd rather pay top dollar for a single quality product over buying 20 consumer-grade models of the same thing. I absolutely can not stand low quality crap.

I worked at an electronics recycling plant a few years back - the amount of stuff that came through there that wasn't even obsolete is disgusting. I'd wager that 1/5 of our waste was current-day products that had failed prematurely and simply been thrown out... every single one of those products should still be working and in use.

I stole a bunch of stuff from there too - scored some amplifiers from 1972 that weigh 60+lbs and compete with stuff costing several thousand dollars today (Sansui AU-8500 & 9500).

I don't expect electronics to be as bomb proof as those, but they shouldn't fail from normal use for many MANY years.

The power is drawn from the outlet, not the console (unless it is a slim unit), and the 3 rings is commonly caused by error 0102, which is a GPU issue, not CPU.
Damn lol, my 3.5 year old xbox just rrod for the first time, and i played it alot lol.

LOL to true, I had a few people walk in while I was working asking if they could return their copies of Black Ops because their copy was scratched by the machine.

But it does tell you in the manual not to move the console once it is in use.

They where rather crappy that the warranty didn't cover user error, and they where even more crappy when I told them that there is only one place that I know of that has had any success removing those particular scratches.

Also to top that off that a CD/DVD/ blu-ray disc is only really any good for two odd buffs and then the disc's start to fracture from the center out and then if buffed again then they can explode in the buffer.

Kinect uses the CPU and GPU to process images from the cameras, which means more CPU and GPU use, meaning more heat. Older X-Boxes can, and will die from that.
