[ArsTechnica] Galaxy Tab review: Android hitchhiking its way to tablet success

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is one of the first high-end Android tablets from a mainstream hardware vendor. Available with 3G connectivity from a wide range of carriers, the Tab is arguably the vanguard of the legion of Android tablets that are expected to arrive in the coming year.

Samsung has delivered an intriguing product with some compelling characteristics, but Android itself hasn't been fully tailored for the tablet form factor yet. The Tab has some unique software customizations that smooth out some of the rough edges and offer a more tablet-friendly experience than stock Android, but it's not quite enough to make it a true iPad rival. You can think of it as a dress rehearsal for the next-generation of Android tablets that are slated to arrive in 2011 with Honeycomb, the next iteration of Google's mobile operating system.

In this review, we'll look at what the Tab does right and what it does wrong with the aim of setting a baseline for the kind of software experience that we expect an Android tablet to deliver. We will be looking primarily at the software and how it performs for tasks like Web browsing, e-mail, and multimedia consumption. (Because there are so many Android tablets about to hit the market, we didn't feel it was worthwhile to focus too closely on the specifics of the Tab hardware. What we're really after here is a first look at the Android-on-a-tablet experience, with some more focused looks at specific Samsung tweaks.)...

Not sure if Ars is serious...the Tab has been out for months. Why are they just now doing a review?

Yeah, Honeycomb will be debuted at CES and solve all of these issues, so this is a little odd to say the least...

Yea it will be debuted but when will it be officially released? Not any time soon from everything I've read online thus far.
