Help me choose a P67 motherboard

Thread Starter
Hey, I would really appreciate some help on which motherboard to buy.

Here are the options:

- Asus P8P67 Pro.
- Asus P8P67 Deluxe.
- Gigabyte P67A-UD4.
- Gigabyte P67A-UD5.

I would appreciate if you could also include a reason as to why it is the best option if it's not too difficult. I am going to set it up with i7 2600k and Corsair 2x2GB 1600/CL7.

Thanks everyone.

out of those 4... Gigabyte UD5....

If your gonna open up the floor...

Gigabyte UD7 because it will support dual PCI-E running at 16x on both slots. Realistically though, 16x vs 8x is very minimal.

I'm a 1 GPU guy. I do game, but my res is 1080, so I don't really see the need for multiple cards.

I'm also a 2-4 hdd kinda guy as well. SSD for Windows, and 1-2 HDD for downloads / games.

That being said, I want a board that will help me get the maximum overclock possible on the CPU.

I'm leaning towards ud4, but can't really tell the difference between that and an the ud5, given the criteria above.

Can anyone help?

Go with either the Asus P8P67 Pro or Gigabyte P67A-UD4. The Deluxe and UD5, IMO, aren't worth the extra cost.

It comes down to on what type of motherboard orientation you prefer and the BIOS setup.

I'm slightly confused by the reviews on the P8P67 Pro. It looks like everything is great except that Marvell controller for sata6gb. The review makes it look like I can use sata6gb controller in the P67 chipset or I can use the marvell controller? Do some of the ports use a different controller or what?

This is the page I'm talking about: http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1973&pageID=9979

Those are the options you can choose from. If you go to page 4 of the review. You will see that the (2) light blue SATA ports are controlled by Intel's P67 Express chipset & the (2) dark blue are controlled by Marvell controller.

I was just in the process of reading this part and was on my way back to edit my post but you beat me to it! I was getting worried when I saw the poor performance of the marvell controller, but since I really only plan on having a single SSD using sata6g, I couldn't care less how the marvell performs. A

I'm leaning towards the ASUS board now, its cheaper and got much better reviews, at least from this website.

Well, when you plug in a SSD or HDD into a motherboard, it needs a way to "talk" to the rest of the system. A SATA controller is what allows this. Everything needs to be on the same page to work together. The P67 chipset is king of the controllers, everything goes through that. Apparently it only has enough space for 2 SATA6gb inputs. However, a 3rd party (marvell) made their own controller that will increase the maximum number of SATA6g inputs by 2. the problem is that the marvell is not as good as the P67. So when you plug SSD's/HDD's into either of the two inputs controlled marvell controler, they run slower than than the two inputs for the P67 controller.

I think that's about how it works anyway.
