My possible upgrade for the future

Thread Starter
Hey guys. As you know I built Le Monstre as my first build. But ive looked into something and I might do a possible upgrade, but like before, I wont be getting all the parts at once because I want to save up my money. Im thinking of a Low to Medium End SLI System with a AM3 Processor. Heres what I found laying around in my local Compusa store. I belive that these parts below have all I need, and I want to keep my rig simple, not with too advance enthusiast stuff (I wanna buy from Compusa because they have alot of things at my local stores that have all I need)

Motherboard = Asus M4N75TD SLI Ready Mobo (I trust on ASUS alot, they have great motherboards)
http://www.compusa.com/applications/...&sku=A455-2895

CPU = AMD Phenom II X2 560 Dual Core Processor (Non Black Edition, Has all I need and uses half the wattage my Phenom X4 9850 has.) http://www.compusa.com/applications/...6&sku=A79-0560

Or I could save 10 dollars and get this Athlon Quad Core, but I would rather Prefer the Phenom X2
http://www.compusa.com/applications/...248&CatId=4919

RAM = Haven't decided yet for any DDR3 ram, Most likely will go for 4,6,7 or 8GB of RAM. I could buy it from Compusa, Newegg, or Amazon.

Video Card = eVga GeForce GTS 450 FPB Edition (I have one of these right now, so why not get another one for SLI?)
http://www.compusa.com/applications/...&sku=E145-0452

So Overclock users, watcha think ??

I'd say sell your old processor, and gfx card.

And buy a phenom II x4 (or something similar), buy a more powerful single GPU ie. gtx 470, 460 and maybe 2gb more RAM

keep the board.

But yeah, we'd need to know the budget

Black Edition for cheaper - slightly higher wattage, but easily overclockable, likely unlockable.

For RAM, stick with 2x2gb sticks or 2x4gb sticks - easier on your memory controller, and means you stay with dual channel performance.

6 or 7gb of RAM are silly options for AMD users really, given the pricing of RAM these days.

SLI 450's would be a good cheap performance option.

You could probably get some good combo deals on newegg if you're open to buying there.

*Edit: frankly I'm with the above message, sell your stuff and upgrade more conclusively.

You both made a good point. Though I wont spend alot of money on a graphics card, even I don't have that much of wattages for a big big graphics card. the AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition would do great! and even if i dont SLI my system out, I would still probably get a GTX 460 or wait for the GTS 550 or GTX 560 to come out later this year (I'm a diehard nVidia fan). I could stick with my old motherboard and just get 2GB more of DDR2 ram, which also saves money for me. Thanks guys
