Logitech Z623 vs Klipsch Promedia 2.1

Well, I bought the Z623 from BestBuy for like $80 on a open box item with my employee discount, I really didn't think they would be as bad as they were. They pretty much sound like the Z2300's which aren't very good at all. They mids are almost non-existent, and the sub really only hit hard on a very small frequency range. (no idea what Hz).

Needless to say, I'm taking them back, Going to Canada Computers, and picking up the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers for $149.99.

So, How good are Klipsch Promedia 2.1 actually? Like a lot of things on this forum, it's on the those things get recommended over, and over again. I'll be using them for quite a bit of bass-intensive music, gaming on my Xbox, and TV.

Does the Sub have a lot of power?

I cant say how it compares to the Z623s but compared to the Z5500, the latter's subwoofer is definitely more powerful but more boomy and muddy than Klipsch's. It has a much better bass response, and it is much crisper and tighter, especially at lower frequencies.

However, bass is definitely plenty, perhaps even a bit overwhelming at times; you may need to adjust the gain depending on what you are listening too.

The Klipsch speakers are definitely geared towards music, but some have complained about how it is too bright for musical production. Now these are budget speakers and it is kind of hard to be critical at the 150 dollar price point, but that is one con I have noticed.

I own the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 and Logitech Z-2300. I use the Klipsch speakers with my HTPC and projector to watch movies on. I think the Promedia's are really impressive and have really great sound. The sub makes some window shaking bass that impresses me a lot. I use the Logitech Z-2300's with my sig rig, you mentioned disliking those, and have been happy with hose so maybe I'm not the best judge for your tastes. Though I will say I think the Klispch sub is better sounding and timed than the Logitech.

How does just the raw power of the sub compare to the Z2300?

Thanks for both of your responses +

Well, can't say from personal experience as I have never heard a Z-2300, but from stat sheets (which is often times a poor indicator ), it seems to me that the sub in the Z-2300 would be more powerful. Correct me if I am wrong.

Personally I think they are both pretty powerful, though overall I would pick the Klipsch's over the Logitech's any day. The Klipsch sub sounds a lot better to me. I don't know if it's just me but the timing on the Logitech sub seems off to me sometimes. Like it's slightly out of sink by a very small margin with what the speakers are playing. I hope that helps, again I'm not a big audio guy.

Both subs have their faults, I find the Logitech subs really boomy while the Klipsch has noticeable cabinet resonance, but the satellites are definitely better on the Klipschs.

The Klipsch sub is a bit too powerful for my tastes, but nothing lowering the sub-woofer volume knob can't fix Once you do that the sound becomes much more balanced an enjoyable (for my tastes that is)

I got them home, but everyone is asleep, So I wasn't able to put it anywhere pass like 1/4 volume! D: I cant all ready tell that they absolutely blow the Logitech's out of the water. It's pretty much convinced me to buy another set to replace my Z5300's.
