heres what I think about XFX...

I LOVE THEM! great customer service and i got a new card even tho its not exactly what i wanted...

i RMA'd my dead XFX reference GOOD BATCH HD4890 because it got zapped with static. i loved that thing! blower fan was loud as hell but it had voltage control and i could OC it to 955/1100Mhz! it was great!
but after 2 months of RMA chat and dealing with crappy FedEx, i received my new card! i was looking forward to something nice too!
HD5830?
HD6850?
GTX275?
i was hoping for those, but guess what i got?
another HD4890.
i was like ok, i can deal with this so i opened it up hoping to see a reference or good batch 4890. i was wrong.
i got the dreaded BLACK PCB CUSTOM FAN 4890!
i have no voltage control and i cant dream of OCing to 950 or else i crash. such a kill joy. at least i can hit 900Mhz or so. haven't finished finding the highest OC with this card yet. its only 2hrs old now lol.
so, i am kinda disappointed. no voltage control? WHYYYY?

i have a GTX275 that cant run Crysis at 1980x1080 res for some reason, and a HD4890 that cant overclock very good.
the 4890 doesnt even have VRM temps, memory temps, LEDs, and voltage monitors!

all of this BS makes me want to sell EVERYTHING to buy a real card, like a GTX570 or HD6970. once my second 275 comes in i might put my HD4890 for sale :/
this card lacks a lot of the features my old one had

well, i guess i'll just use my 4890 as a main card and 275 as physX and folding, since i can actually OC the 4890 to a speed that makes it close to GTX280 performance

so i guess my 4890 isnt so bad after all, its alot quieter and the custom fan and XFX part at the top looks really good in my rig! its also a lot quieter and runs cooler.
so i guess you cant have it all. im still thankful that i got a new 4890 and i could at least make a good 130 or 140 from it since its brand new.

i still love XFX tho! i guess i'll bench it just for fun and sell it eventually

Only things I don't really like about XFX are the meagre accessory bundles and the stickers over the cooler mount screws. If my 6950 ever dies after I put it under water, not sure what I'll do for an RMA.

And on an on topic note, 6950 is great value, even if you couldn't unlock it.

update:
this card is the biggest piece of crap i have ever used.
the bloody thing crashes when i run crysis on high at STOCK speeds! i cant even OC this PoS now that it crashes at 900!
i definitely got the BAD BATCH! this thing keeps jumping from 30-60 fan load when idle and its annoying and PISSES ME OFF!
XFX said that they would give me a equal or better card with RMA.
LIES! ALL LIES!
i ended up getting some crappy card thats WORSE than my old one! completely unacceptable.
im sending their crap right back to them. no1 on this forum is stupid enough to buy this!

this is just weak XFX. ive been loyal since my alpha dog 8800GT, but this is the last straw. if i buy a 6950 or 6970 from XFX and it gives me more crap, im ditching XFX.

im RMAing this piece of crap. they better give something to make up for it. if they send me more crap then its on.
i expect AT LEAST a 5830.

no wonder people started hating XFX. this is really scarring their reputation with me.

lol
their accesories was ok tho. DVI-VGA adapter, Svideo-component adapter, CFX connector, and 2 PCIe thingies is pretty good imo.

AFAIK xfx lets you mod your cooling, but wants you to call them before you do.

directly from my warranty book from my 6950:

XFX has carefully selected the optimal thermal or fansink component for your graphics model. We do not encourage the removal of components due to damage that may result in the process. CFC understands that some enthusiasts may choose to replace the original component with their own cooling solution. To support the gaming community, we recommend that you contact XFX prior to any modifications so that we can update your profile and product registration to avoid potential issues with warranty support. In addition, XFX support will be able to walk through the installation with you or provide feedback and pointers on available options for your specific product. You may even consider shipping your components to XFX and allow the technicians at XFX to perform the modification for you (shipping charges to XFX apply).

Yeah, I love XFX's RMA things and customer service, but I went through 3 5970's before I got a good one. I'm on my FOURTH 5970. Fourth!

It's pretty rediculous. I know there was a problem with 5970's, even more so with XFX; I just had to have the special edition

If it crashes on stock clocks, unaltered in anyway, it's a faulty product. Send it back, demand something for your time and shipping

Might want to change the first line of the OP. Doesn't sound like you love them so much anymore lol.
