Dell Precision M6500

Thread Starter
I am afraid I am going to have to take a huge loss on my M6500. I got it originally from my uncle (his business semi-went under and fired him/basically gave him the laptop as part of payment). It made its way to me.
Damages:
The laptop worked absolutely wonderfully until a week ago I spilled a little water on the laptop. I immediately turned it off, and proceeded to dry the laptop. While shutting down it showed small flickering of the screen.
I used Alcohol (90%) to clean the laptop a bit. Once I was done dying it/cleaning it I basically turned it on and lo and behold I had issues with the LCD.
At first it showed a heavy heavy green tint which led me to believe it was the LCD but the passing days the LCD eventually showed no display/flickered once in a while. While the backlight did come on it would not display anything.

Immediately I thought it was the LCD because of the green pixelation of the screen, so I ordered a replacement. Same problem. So I ruled out the LCD screen.

Now I know the issue is either the LVDS cable, or the LVDS board.
Messing with the cable shows flickering, and we managed to get an image but no backlight. Overall we know the backlight works, but the issue is in the LVDS cable or the LVDS circuit board.

Since the business my uncle worked for was the original owner and the warranty was being provided by a 3rd party company (According to Dell, it was contracted to a 3rd party, and they will not be warrantying the laptop) I am out of luck in terms of warranty.

Everything else is working 100%. All 4x USB's/firewire 6 pin/Expresscard/PC card/ Audio/mic out/ VGA. Displayport is not tested but should work.
Battery works, charging works.

See spoiler for history.

Working properly:
The LCD shows no display, it is possible the LVDS cable or LVDS circuit board failed. The LCD is working to my knowledge, however I have a replacement one if it does not if you decide to fix it. So far I am using it with an external monitor. However, since the laptop is used for business, I have to get a new one and cut my losses I need a mobile laptop not a desktop brick.
I've ran 6 hours of prime95, 0 issues. Temperatures are under 70c (64c~ and under).
Over 8 hours of dragon age: origins/awakening grind fest. (GPU/CPU temperatures do not go above 70c) Max settings/1080P
Several hours of Bad Company 2 (Medium settings 1080P).

Overall the laptop is working perfectly apart from the LCD issue. The issue is either the cable or the lvds board as I mentioned.

Specifications:
CPU: i7 620m@ 2.66 ghz
Memory: 2x2GB DDR3 1066 mhz (4gb total). Max memory: 8gb.
HDD: 7k500 Hitachi 7200 RPM 500GB 2.5" Hard Drive: 2nd hard drive caddy is present.
Display: WLED WUXGA LCD (1920x1200, White LED backlit).
Webcam: 3MP Webcam. Good quality with light, not so good at night.
GPU: Nvidia Quadro FX 2800M 1GB (A bit better then the HD 5850 Mobility)
Windows: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
Backlit Keyboard, Express Card/PC Card/Firewire 6 pin etc.
No Warranty (Service Tag is missing, uncle is not sure where it is but he said he doesn't remember seeing it while he used it).

Condition is excellent. Very few fine scratches on the LCD cover.

Let me know what you guys think it's worth. Like I said I am sure it is either the LVDS Cable or the LVDS board, both you should be able to nab from Dell.

The LCD is a huge turn off for me, but the GPU is pretty good for business needs, and graphic work.
The waranty issue is not a big problem for me.

i'd say +700ish

$700? That's a bit low considering the problem is just the LVDS Cable or LVDS board. The video card is slightly faster then an Mobility HD 5850. Great for gaming as well.

This unit costs around $2,600 new... I am sure a LVDS cable or board and no warranty is not worth $1900.

Would you guys think $1,100 is a fair price considering this is a workstation computer?

Yeah, I think around $1000 or so is fair considering it is a beast laptop and it could be an easy fix with the replacement parts. I'd put it on OCN first and if it's not selling, then try ebay or craigslist.

Good luck!
