Setting Up My First SSD!!

Thread Starter
I know theres probably tons of threads on these but I still need help. Theres no direct steps and theres different information on every page.

I just picked up a OCZ Vertex 2 on newegg and am going to do a fresh os install on it. (Boot drive). Now this is the part where you guys have to help.......

Should I set it up as AHCI? What is it & How?

What do I disable in windows (caching and stuff like that)?

Any tweaks for win 7?

Anything else I should know about these bad boys?

1. Set-up you BIOS in AHCI Mode
2. Remove hard-drive
3. Mount SSD
4. Disabel defrag and hard disk indexing service.
4. Download the latest INTEL Rapid Storage Technology Driver
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...+technology%22 and install it.
5.Enjoy.

No, you don't have to use the driver if you don't want to. You can't do raid with just one drive. The raid driver contains both drivers. Most of the stuff that needs to be cut off will be done automatically. But you can always go back and double check if you like to do so..

It is not entirely neccesary ,the Windows generic driver works okay, with a less speed than the Intel RST driver with TRIM functionality (SSD speed performance recovery mechanism) working.

RAID configuration are for more than 1 SSD,in this case you can't do RAID since you have only one SSD.

If you are asking yourself if you can RAID a Hard disk and a SSD ,the answer is no.Plus a RAID configuration disables TRIM .

Defrag, SuperFetch, PreFetch, etc are all automatically disabled when Windows runs WEI and recognizes you have an SSD.

Manually disable drive indexing and you are good to go.

Ok, so should I still download the Intel RST driver without using raid? Will it increase speeds if i'm just using 1 ssd.

also, I want trim enabled.

What about the page file? Should you disable that as well?
