So we have overclocked dual core i3, 2x470 in SLI and a 8800 for PHysX and your load is 600W for the whole system?

If so, that's a lot lower than most make it out to be indeed....

I totally agree with OP. Can't count the number of systems out there with 1000watt PSU that need only a 600 - 750 watter.

The PSU companies are laughing all the way to bank. The profit margins are terrific on high wattage PSUs.

Anyhow, you have one of the best PSUs on the planet in the Seasonic X-650.

Kids don't try this at home with the $39.95 PSU.

Also keep in mind that this is with every piece of hardware pegged at 100% load, so it's absolutely worst case. People that only game will never see that kind of load, so their max draw will be even less.

Can you do me/us a favor and run the same thing but without one of the 470's just to see how much a single 470 GPU actually consumes?

I did this before. Keep in mind that I had a GTS250 before and I have an 8800GT now, so that's a 10-25w savings. This second GTX470 overclocked had the rig pulling ~195w more, it added that plus whatever the 250 to 8800 swap got me - so I'd say a 470 at 800mhz core and 1.087v is probably around 210w at the wall. As always, TDP is exaggerated and it takes a stiff overclock/overvolt to even hit stock TDP.

the op has an i3 dual core so wouldn a similar spec'd quad draw double that power drawn by the cpu like another 100 watts

No. The i3 has a 73w TDP, the same socket i7 is 95w. It'd definitely draw more, but I don't think it'd be anywhere near 100w more.

73 watts even tho its clocked to 4.4?i think an i7 8x0 would draw quite a bit when clocked to 4.4

So 470x2 would be about 420W

So ur overclocked CPU + 8800 + rest of the system is about 180W? That's pretty nuts!

I knew that power consumption was exaggerated but its even more than I thought.
