i was told that 2 GTX 580s run on 777w accual power, so a 650w would be plenty for sli GTX 570

If you are going to go that far with the build might as well go all the way and add a 120GB SSD? Other than that I’m sure you will have no problems running 3D on most games maxed out!

the thing with ssd is i dont really wanna pay that much for just quicker loading times!

orignially i was gonna get a laptop for gaming and pay 1800 and wouldnt be able to run starcraft in more than 30 fps!

2000 is my absolute limit and 3D is the only reason im going rig instead of laptop.

I support that reasoning. There's no point in trying to calculate and go for the PSU that supplies JUST enough power. If you happen to run into a pair of 580s for cheap you won't have to worry about your PSU if you already have an 800W one. Think about it. Your PSU will only consume what your components demand from it. You can get an 800W PSU and it won't consume any more power than a 600W PSU on the same system. You might as well spend the $20 extra now to avoid having to buy a new PSU altogether in the future for another ~$100. You can even pass it over to your NEXT build when the time comes.
