It certainly shouldn't according to the words Intel used. Regardless, there would very quickly be a way to circumvent that.

Just 3 more days; why wouldn't you! You can then judge if the 950s are going to drop in price. I doubt they are. If Newegg pays ~$290 per 950 they're not going to drop it below that and lose money. They're more likely to lower motherboard prices. I'm pretty sure retailers have held back on getting more supplies of 1366 chips knowing that 1155 is here.

Of course, another option you have is to wait for OCN members that are getting SB to throw up their 950s and motherboards for sale on OCN; you may get a very good deal that way.

arent the sandys gonna be the same price as the current i series (about) so who would buy the 950s if sandy is gonna be bout the same price and way higher clocked!? they would have to make some sort of incentive to buy em still

Excuse the highlight FAIL!
Just a heads-up that the i7 950 is $229 at Micro Center (in-store only, Santa Ana/Tustin for you there in So Cal).

As much as I LOVE feeling like I'm getting high value on my purchases, I'm going SB for sure no matter what happens with 1156/1336 pricing. I'm on 775 with a Q6600 so this is like a 3-5 year step up for me.

Some people may already have a 1366 motherboard and triple channel RAM on hand but just want a CPU. Rather than spending maybe $600 on a 2600k, new motherboard, and new RAM, they just go for the $300 950. Trust me. I bought an E8400 on release day; it held its price for over a year. Even when i5s/i7s came, the E8400 held its value. It's actually still going for $170. It was $320 when I bought it in January 2008. So it's price hasn't even been cut in half in 3 years.

Nope. They sell CPUs at cost to attract customers to their stores to buy other gear. I can't say for sure if they actually lose money on them, but their CPU prices are well below every other retailer.

All of the release motherboards are great. I'm going for the Asus P8P67 Pro as it has the best value at $160. 2 PCI Express x16 slots for SLI plus a third PCI Express x16 slot for a third GPU for folding/PhysX. The Sabertooth P67 looks sick but it's not worth its price. It has a large plastic shroud over the entire board that supposedly helps air flow right to the important areas.
