Urgent question

So here's the deal; A friend has a credit card or a coupon (not even sure myself) that cuts off 50% the price of any electronic item bought!! (this includes any stuff on the net too) This is what I was intending to purchase before he came in the picture:

- Cooler Master HAF X case
- Gigabyte GA-X58A-UDR3 mobo
- Intel i7-950 Bloomfield CPU
- EVGA GTX 570 GPU
- Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD
- OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD
- OCZ Platinum XTE 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600 6-8-6-24
- Kingwin LZG-1000 Gold PSU
- Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler

I was thinking that the most advantageous thing to do is replace GTX 570 with GTX 580. i7-980x is way overkill for me. What do you think?

yeah- just use it to get the most expensive item on your list, in your case, the gpu.

Maybe look for a good deal on a prebuilt pc with the chip, and gpu that you want and get more for 1/2 price?

Buy the 980 and sell it.

Do you think that the i7-980x at 80% price would easily be bought on, let's say, ebay? Definetly considering doing that.

If not, I think i'd rather get GTX 580 half price and maybe add another one in like 1-2 years than getting two 570s SLI right away, I don't own yet any of the rig i've listed above, those are all stuff that I intend to buy with my 2000-2200$ budget.

You could probably sell a brand new unopened 980 for 899.99

After reviewing them 980Xs being sold on eBay, I most probably wouldn't make it at 900$ but maybe 800$. Even with that, I find this way of doing a bit risky for me so I guess I'll just get the GTX 580 half priced and save me about 250$ rather than try to sell i7-980x on ebay for 800$, making 300$ profit but with no guarantee and a lot of time cost.

Better safe by getting the GTX 580. You mentioned adding another in a couple years but that may or may not prove difficult depending on which model you buy and the availability down the line.

What good is a 980x to me if i'm a simple pc gamer/user?
I guess what I just said applies to the i7-950 aswell lol but it's WAY less expensive and getting gtx 580 instead would make a better difference in my case.
