Corsair Obsidian 650D Mid-Tower - Page 235

Seems all the bitfenix spectre pros (black) are out of stock everywhere I look. Anyone have pics of the white led versions in the 650d?

Has anyone spray painted a 650D?

To be honest I don't like the color of it, looks kind of gray...

I found a 120mm CM fan I had lying around that I remembered and decided to put it on the mesh to see if temps improve and see if it's ugly. Here is what I got:

Before:

After:

Kind of looks like the 8-pin cables melted and leaked gooey power lava onto the floor

To be honest, I actually like the look of the mesh vs the window for some reason. The selling point was the window when I bought it but with the mesh, it kind of pulls the whole look together because of the mesh grills the 650D has on the top and front. Gives it a more industrial kind of look.

Temperature wise, it's pretty much the same lol. I'm sure it helps 1-2c but that's about it. I don't know if I put 3 fans onto it if it would make a difference or not, but I don't think it helps that much.

I'm sure someone must have painted the whole case.
I painted the front and my fan shroud with Rustoleum 'Hammer finish charcoal grey'. So while it isn't the color you are going for it does show it is being done. I like the two tone effect.

Also, when I was installing the side fans, I turned my top 200mm CM Megaflow into intake instead of exhaust for "positive" airflow. I just realized that I have a side mesh so all the air would escape...making the intake a worse option. I should switch the top back to exhaust yeah? If I'm using mesh instead of window.

WiL11o6 - Both look really cool. Maybe it's time to watercool. A GTS280 up top and a GTS120 on the back and you should be able to cool all three components quite nicely. Red tubing or uv red coolant and you are still matching your awesome color scheme.

There are lots of opinions on this, but I believe top fans should always exhaust air and front, side and bottom fans should bring it in. Should be a quick test.

I thought about water cooling, and I don't mind dropping another $500 or whatever for the kit, but I know nothing about water cooling. I read through some water cooling threads here on OCN and it seems scary. One mistake and I would have a huge disaster on my hands, especially this being my first real build and I have $1200 in GPUs.

The hardest part is just planning your loop TBH. I've had a tube fall out of a compression fitting but that was my own dumb fault for not pushing it down all the way during installation.

I want to paint it glossy black, maybe some other color but for not glossy black seems like the best option. Will go nicely with my monitor. I am not sure what to do with the front. Might leave it like that, but if it doesn't go well with the glossy finish, I might paint it as well.

I am in the same spot you are; I am considering water cooling my PC after upgrading to Ivy Bridge but know very little about it and yes it is indeed scary to think that there will be water running in your case.

I found this article to be a good starting point. When I have questions after reading it, I just google or ask on forums. Hope this helps a little bit.
