Corsair Obsidian 650D Mid-Tower - Page 277

So my 955 is working great OC'd to 3.8GHz but I want to get something that would process better and I know that increasing to 6 cores from 4 isn't that big of a jump but it would be nice to have something that's at least a little future proof, albeit that term doesn't really exist in the PC world lol.

I would also go with a z77 board and a new Ivy Bridge CPU but I don't have the monies for any of it at this point.

I am also thinking of getting a new GPU. That for sure would be the newt thing to get. I was looking into the 7870 or holding out for the GTX 680, but I'm torn between those two for sure.

I'm hoping I can last awhile with my 2500k, being 17 and paying your bills sucks thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

I am 23 and I know that feeling!

My Q6600 is still good and it would last me another year but since I have an OEM motherboard, I can't overclock it. So instead of getting a used P45 motherboard, I decided to go with Ivy. Seeing how its release is around the corner, getting Sandy would be a waste of money I think.

I need to get my 650D looking nice. I hate the look of my motherboard in there.

BTW, how do you like you Gigabyte motherboard?

EDIT again: does anyone know if you can paint the heatsinks on a motherboard? Would that affect cooling performance?

hey all! just wanted to update on the progress of my build. i picked up a metal nibbler from my local HW store to clean up the cuts i had made in the front mesh. i completely removed the front mesh before, but i wasnt happy with the jagged edges i left behind with the cutters i had used before. the nibbler made quick work of the that mess!!!

after i finished i still wasnt happy witht the look, so i picked up some U channel to line the edges of the fan cutout...and viola!!! i will say im extremely happy with the final results this time.

Everyone will pretty much suggest either of the following:

1) Don't do it.

2)Send it off to get it powdercoated.

The problem with regular paint on a heatsink is that it immediate traps the heat from leaving the heatsink. Even a thin layer can do that. If you want to paint the ENTIRE heat sink, i would advise against it. But if you just wanted to do say..the top portion? I would say it wouldn't hurt *too* bad to just lightly paint the top portion of it.

I thought about just painting the top portion of the Z77 Sabertooth heat sink:
425

It's a very small portion of brown that i think if you JUST did the viewable portion it wouldn't be too bad but then I saw pictures of people with a 680 in the top slot and it pretty much covers it up.
