Spec me a power supply

Thread Starter
Can somebody recommend me a really quiet 1000w modular power supply. I am about to build a sandy bridge PC with 2 high end nvidia cards in SLI.

Corsair HX1000 will do just fine with 570/580's in SLi.

Which cards are you going to be running?

You'll want a good 750W for GTX 570's and a 850W for 580's. Corsair AX/HX series, XFX's Black Edition PSU's and Seasonic's X Series are all worth a look.

this should be enough, 1kW is overkill for that rig

But hey, keep in mind, this might be a good chance to get a killer PSU. 1,000 watts may be "overkill" for that rig, but PSUs are the one of the very few things on a PC that dont need to be replaced every 2 years (or less) lol. Besides, a higher wattage PSU will be more efficient running lower wattage things.

Eg: an 850watt PSU will be less efficient than a 1000 watt PSU with an 800watt load on each.

*Edit*

Since you are building a nice rig, I recommend going all out on the PSU too. Might as well right? I run a 1200 watt Antec True Power Quattro Overclocking Edition that i absolutely love. And would easily handle going all the way to TriSLi

If you care, here is a link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ro%201200%20oc
It would definitely last you a while haha.

Thanks. How quiet is your 1200 watt Antec True Power Quattro? I thought 2 GTX 580 in SLI would be about 725w alone?

My build is going to be something like

Coolermaster HAF X case
Asus P8P67 motherboard
6 GB memory
i7 2600k
Megahalems rev B processor cooler
Two GTX 580
GTX 295 for physics
ASUS Xonar D2X sound card
Blue ray recorder
DVD writer (from old PC)
300 GB velociraptor hard drive
256 GB SSD

Not necessarily correct -- you might want to read the link below for an explanation

I know for a fact that even OCed 580s aren't going over 300W(for 1 580) in anything except with modded drivers in Furmark.
