physx dedicated card with dx11

Thread Starter
So I have a quick question I can't find the answer for. I looked through the forums and it seems nobody has asked it before.

Can I run a gtx 570 or 580 card DX11 with an 8800gt present for physx?

here it is in a different way:
Do games with DX11 enabled require a DX11 card to run physx or can it be any card?

Also, while I'm at it, will the 8800 gt be a good enough card for physx? or will it limit my minimum fps?

Sorry if some of you might think that this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it anywhere and I don't know much about the gtx 5xx drivers to know if it will work on DX11.

No. All that is required for a physics card is Nvidia's Unified Shader architect which they first launched with the 8800-series cards.

In other words, the API(DX9, DX10, DX11) makes no different as long as you use an Nvidia card that was released from Fall 2006-present.(8-series, 9-series, 200-series, 400-series and 500-series GPUs)

awesome!!! thanks a lot man!

do you know if the 8800gt will be enough to keep up with the physics processing? or will it make my min fps drop on the gtx 570 or 580?

No it will not, it requires a GTX 275/285 to equal a GTX 570 in PhysX Processing.

so in other words I'm better off selling one of my 8800gt and getting the 580 to increase performance?

Better off selling both and using a GTX 570 or 580 for both PhysX and 3D Rendering =P

He means that you need a faster card than a 8800GT to keep up with a 570.

Probably, the old 8800 is a wimp in comparison to the 570/580. You can probably get some bonus from using the 8800 as physX only, but to be honest, you won't gain much if you do. The 570/580 can run PhsyX in the background and do it better than the 8800 can do it.

Here's a pretty decent comparison list.

http://www.overclock.net/video-game-...enchmarks.html

GTX 570 is about a GTX 480 in performance. The 8800GT is slower than a 9800GTX, so I'd say you'll get worse performance.
