Need Advice, New intel cpu purchase, cant wait for SB need now. 600$ budget with MB - Page 4

lol.

Sure thing guy, nothing you say makes any sense anyways.

Why you would sell someone on the idea of 4GHz when it's never certain, and why you'd build a computer that is near the limit of the processor and not except major hassles is beyond me.

Either way you better make room in your budget for an aftermarket cooler in the $50-$70 range, unless you have that already.

Why a student would need it right before school starts is beyond me... Why can't you wait a few days, get way better pricing on much faster chips and ship it to him once you've built it and tweaked everything in?

You gonna prime95 it 24 hours by Saturday?

No? So you're gonna sell someone an unstable machine, maybe the guy should rethink using you as the builder..

Hi, for your budget, a core i7 950 and a asus republic of gamers motherboard whould be awesome!

Sandy bridge is better, but since it's urgent, a i7 950 isnt far off
post #33 of 66
A socket 1156 system is essentially just as good as socket 1336 but costs a lot less. If he is not doing video editing, 3D rendering etc he does not need a socket 1336. A 1156 quad core will perform equally as good. There are lots of benchmarks out there that prove this.

Games do not take advantage of hyperthreading.

In all honestly I probably don't need my i7-950. I bought it more because I'm a nerd and wanted an awesome computer...

See first post, HOPING to get 4 ghz....
See these are things you assume. He has an aftermarket cooler. Will an Cogage Arrow cool it? You tell me, but i would think so. Theres a reason i said 600 mobo and cpu. I didnt say ram, or cooler in the title. This student friend of mine needs it right away because his mobo just died and he doesnt have a computer, which would be why he was here next to me when i was asking for good advice.
And can i prime it by saturday, yes if i buy the local deal.
Things went south when you told me to rip him off, which tells me maybe EVERYBODY should rethink about dealing with you.

this is also true. an 860 will perform as well as a 920 (infact, even better in select benchmarks. only major advantage i can see in a 920 is triple channel memory. however i could be missing something, so dont flame me. lol.)
lynnfield processors are VERY good for the $$

also about sandybridge, i keep hearing it will debut at the consumer electronics show in las vegas. and that opens tommorow so..... its up to you man

you know SB comes out in a couple days, i woudl wait.

BUT the problem if he is at school, no car, and no computer chip nearby, then yes he needs to buy now, unless he wants to order online, which I woudl do if I was him. IDk last time I went to college was 5 years ago, and well i am pretty sure i had winter break until mid january..

Triple channel memory is a joke ATM, the IMC in the i7 900 series is shabby at best, its better than ****ty, and worse than super.
