Need help Installing Win7

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, this is my first post here. Been a lurker for a while but after my new build, I decided I need some help.

OK, Here is the problem. I built a new computer, the one thats in my sig. I try and install the Windows 7 that my friend gave me, but it won't work. (Its a corporate version, don't know if it is Professional, Home, or Ultimate, but I saw him burn the disc, it was a legit copy. Note: The original file was 4.77GB so we had to delete a couple language packs in the language folder that I was never going to use to make it fit on the DVD, which shrunk it down to ~3.65 GB. I don't know if it was him deleting stuff that is currently making it not boot.)

So back to the issue. When I try and install it, I get the black screen message : "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device"

I have the SATA ports in the BIOS all set to AHCI, the SSD plugged into the first SATA port on the motherboard (Asus M4A87TD EVO)and the DVD drive in the second. In the BIOS, they all show up and are detected. I have the correct boot order and everything. I know that the disc works because when I put it in a different computer, the Windows 7 install thing came up with the select language interface.

Any suggestions?

After your boot splash screen, and your computer info, it should say " Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" , if it doesnt say that, then you dont have your boot order correct, and you need to adjust it.

The Boot Order is correct, the DVD drive is above all else. I even tried pressing F8 in the beginning to boot from the DVD drive there. I also tried setting it all to IDE, same issue.

How fast did u burn the iso?

Vista and win 7 both like to be burned SLOW

And deleting files isn't a good idea, try OVERBURNING the disk to 4.77

Ummm, I really don't know. Ill go and burn a really slow one, and try and find my 8gb DL discs.

EDIT: Yep, it was at X16. I'm burning a X4 one right now. It was the lowest it could go. If I don't reply back in 15 minutes, then it will be a sucess! Wish me luck people! XD

I burned my DVD at the fastest possible and no problems at all. It has to do with the configuration of your boot or something..nothing to do with the DVD itself.
Ahh!

If you have the boot order set correctly, either the disk isnt intact, file wise, or the disc your using cant be read by your drive. Ive had some disks that wouldnt work in my old dvd burner. A DL Dvd should do the trick. Alternatively you can use an external hard disk, or a large flash drive if you have one available.
