Ahh, I know someone would say that. I don't know if I trust those numbers as it would seem to be that Intel would love to have good PR and by providing cherry picked CPUs YRMV. I would like to see the numbers for SB once it's released and compare then. My build date is around the 31st of this month which allows me to await the 6990 which I hear is dependent on sales of the 6970 series so it may show or not. My long term plan if I can get my hands on a 6990 would be to re task it into a itx build once I upgrade in the future to have a nice "Lan" rig. I'm pretty sure the 6990 will still be kicking around in 3 years or so since I'm gaming currently on a 4250 IGP and on a ATI 9000(!).

My conclusion to the Intel debate awaits hard numbers in the wild, having 6 real cores kind of makes me horny, and OpenCL may keep (AMD) a relevant platform in the future as software is so grossly unoptimised.

I'm also a college student with a programming major. I've heard bad things about SB and linux. My perception of Intel is a bunch of people who like to golf, drive around in BMWs, and spend money on lawn treatments. It wasn't until recently they release a unlocked processor that isn't $1000 and the massive heat issues with the P4s still haunt me.

Overall I vote with my money. I'd like to see the underdog stick around and keep prices in check. AMD may not be the cutting edge all the time but I've had more good than bad experiences and until otherwise I'll buy their products.

i also want a 6990 i'd actually want 2 but its going to bottleneck my cpu so badly lol

and i was just wondering about the sandy brige anniways i also want to see proof but there smaller cores so it would be normal for them to not heat up so much

The higher the resolution the less the bottleneck. Although it can be debated about the whole console gaming thing and being happy with a 5770 for the next few years I'm banking heavily on OpenCL to come into play. No more ATI Stream, CUDA, Phsyx, etc we only need one open language for all. Load balancing on everything (CPU+GPU) seems so revolutionary.

Now the only thing we need is a SB based console with OpenCL support with accelerated physics and we may finally get it on PC!

Completely off topic but I was considering doing 2 C300's in raid 0 for all out speed until I really got to reading about it. As of right now there is no TRIM support for SSD's in raid Crucial does have GC but on the Crucial forums they have stated that SSD performance will degrade over time in raid with now TRIM. Just my 2 cents on that as I am about to do a build myself and was going to do 2 64GB C300's and have redecided on just 1 128GB instead.

Now for on topic I plan on doing 2X 6950's and unlocking them yeah you may not can OC them as much as a stock 6970 would be able to but I can put that $100 or more saving into something else.

I don't think so. 6970 overclocking a little better...maybe.

Lots...No! So far I flashed (4) 6950, (2) of them are mine.

All (4) run at least 920/1450 on stock voltage.
(1) of the XFX was gem and does 950/1500 on stock voltage.

That extra 2 ground pins per GPU may do something. Has anyone looked to see if the solder pads are still on the card? Maybe people can swap the 6 PciE molex to 8 with some handy soldering skills. Just be sure to sand down the corner

go for 2, when running high resolution, you definitely could use the extra juice

you are already spending 4K, why not spend the extra $ on what's going to be really giving that smile from ear to ear =P

razer blackwidow normal instead of ultimate
razer deathadder instead of mamba
razer goliathus instead of vespula.

DO NOT, i repeat - DO NOT - get any current AMD cpu for your setup. can you say bottleneck ??

Even @ 4.2 my cpu bottlenecks my cards in some games.
Any i7 cpu crushs the amd 1090t in gaming & real world apps & i say this from experience, im waiting for a sandy bridge cpu to come in so that my cards may fly freeee.

Again DO NOT buy a 1090T for crossfire/sli setups.
I highly recommend
the i7 2500k for gaming; or
the i7 2600k for gaming/video editing/graphics
