[NotebookCheck] Nvidia GTX 485m Benchmarks and Review

The Geforce GTX 480M and the new Nvidia Geforce GTX 485M cannot have much in common, because a performance gain of plus 42% on average in games would not be possible if they did. It gets apparent that a fully-fledged GT104 core can clearly cope better with mobile gaming demands than the trimmed down GT100 in the GTX 480M. The old ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 is even outdone by 69% on average.

The results in the synthetic benchmarks is similar: +52% compared to the GTX 480M and 63% faster than the HD 5870, whereas we compared to the best results in our database. In the gaming tests, and also in the 3D Mark Vantage, only dual graphics solutions, e.g. the GTX 480M SLI or the GTX 460M SLI rank ahead of the GTX 485M. But, it can even sometimes outdo the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 in Crossfire connection.

May come with a hefty price tag, but Intel's Sandy Bridge processor and nVIDIa's Geforce GTX 485M are the performance crown for gaming laptops. Doesn't say about the power consumption, but the 485M beats out AMD's 6970M in some marks.

I'm transferring to the University of Texas this year and I've been looking at laptops, but I feared they weren't powerful enough for what I wanted. That all changes now.

So its on-par or slightly slower than a stock GTX 460-desktop! Thats awesome... Imagine if you created an over clock profile for when you have it stationary and plugged in.

I just wish they offered this in a shell that is as nice as the Asus G73s or HP Envy 17s. Clevo chassis are ugly in my opinion.

The newer models look better than what they offered in the past. I just wish asus would give you more options. A sli 485m in g73 chassis w/ 120hz 3d screen would be my dream machine, but i'm content to go with performance over looks - so sager it is.

It went from 42 degrees idle and undervolted to 70 degrees under load in less than a minute.

With that said, I don't think you'd want an overclock profile, perhaps an underclock one? tongue.gif

Uhh 70 degrees is nothing for a laptop GPU.. they can run up to 100C pretty easily.. Just ask any G51/G1 user wink.gif
