HD6950 or HD6870 - Page 2

If you're looking for single card performance and expandability, i would get the 6950. it's roughly the 8th fastest card right now, and it's very easy to unlock following this guide. even if you don't unlock it, it overclocks pretty well on its own. getting another 6850 and running in CF will give you the marks you want, but you don't have any room to upgrade.

this website shows what i mean fairly well, this graph is it in a nutshell.

also, if you have the time, i would wait until the end of the month. rumors have been going around that the release of the 560 is going to make AMD drop the price on the 69xx series.

you have a point. i don't think amd is going to continue shipping unlockable 6950's, so i guess it's a tossup, buy a 6950 now and unlock it, or buy a 6950/70 later when the 560 drops their price.

Was on the fence between $349 GTX 570 and $299 6950.

Got the 6950 then Santa Claus flashed my cards to 6970 and told me to overclock them!

I now got two 6950 running 925/1500 and have been laughing ever since!

I say stick with what you have. If you were to upgrade, go with the 6950.

6950

forgot to mention.. I believe 6870 (or 68XX) they are limited to only crossfireX(max of 2 cards - since they only have 1 CFX slot connector) ... while 6950 (or 69XX) they are not limited they can be used as quadfire(max of 4 cards - 2 cfx slot connectors).
You sound like a true 790fx-gd70 owner. I think the same way, even though I will probably never do more than crossfire.
