In that same vein I am actually trying to be helpful to you. It would do you no good if all I did was commiserate or pretend your system was actually bricked or that you were totally justified in spreading Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, not only for the sake of OP but the whole forum, including you. Such behaviour can be understood since we all get frustrated sometimes, but it is hardly noble or even useful to reinforce unsubstantiated negativity. Doesn't nobility mean appealing to the higher self?

Perhaps the initial dash of cold water in your face will prompt you to shake yourself off, climb back on, and try again, properly, with help and guidance.... assuming you were as you are now beginning to sound, somewhat serious.
Are you one of the writers for "The Big Bang Theory" because I swear I've seen Sheldon making comments like this!

I can just see you as Sheldon and Xenthos as Penny...

Bahahaha

My favorite is OpenSUSE Linux on laptops and it's a great distro... but for "easy" Linux start with Ubuntu.

All I can state is you try it virtually on desktop or on your laptop and see how you like it. Then do a fresh install on your lappy.

Go for it, Xenthos!

Yeah... you could try *buntu, but, slack is almost as easy to set up and the plasma desktop is pure win (although not as in "doze" )

I see. Well, don't get me wrong, I like Linux, I have been using it for years but for some reason, whenever I touch anything else than the desktop I scrw up.

I hate Apple. I don't like Apple.

I'm not spoiled. I got a job, earned my own money and bought this rig.

Nah. I probably have slightly more in common with Leonard since he is less neurotic than Sheldon and actually managed to bed Penny, although I am not so stereotypically nerdy or shy around ladies. (See.... I even avoided using the word "coitus")

Yeah OP - go Linux. It's less work for you in the end once fully setup. There's barely any maintenance you have to do to keep it running smoothly. My laptop runs Linux on a Pentium M and 512MB RAM I've never felt it was too slow to handle my everyday tasks so I haven't felt the need to replace it.

Actually Windows did something to me just a few minutes ago that really pissed me off but that obviously has nothing to do with my recommendation.

I had quite a few good laughs at the posts in this thread
OP; put Ubuntu on that Laptop and it will run fine.
When you have questions, just ask and all will help you do the needed things.
