MSY Tried Saying My CPU Pins Are Bent So No Refund, CLEARLY Not Bent.

I bought an Athlon 640 at MSY last week, it worked for 5 days then on restart the PC would not show anything. I take the CPU out, put in another 640 CPU and it boots up fine. = Broken Athlon 640.

I tried taking it back to MSY today, in the line I hear a man looking for a monitor with a VGA port, the person behind the counter says "Nah, this monitor only has D-Sub and DVI." Idiot. Anyway, I get to him and say I had it for a week, broke in 5 days and explained how I swapped it out and got a boot.

He took out the CPU from the packaging, and he looked at me (I'm 15) and asked if I put it in myself, I say yes, then he looks at the chip and says instantly "Bent pins" notice the >>S<< on the end of pin. So he says there are bent pinS. I instantly say there aren't any because I already checked, then he says, "No, it's slightly bent - but still bent. Nope - I can't return this." He tries to put it back into the packaging but I ask to see it, It's instantly clear that there are no bends at all, not even slightly. I say again that there are none at all, so he takes it back, and says "Straight, Straight, Straight, Bent, this one right here." And points to the MIDDLE of the CPU pins. How would I have bent the middle CPU pin SLIGHTLY if the pins on the side are all fine?

Also notice how he says "This one right here" as if he is referring to only one pin this time, where as last time it was pinS. He is basically making up excuses not to give me a replacement. To prove he doesn't like me even more, he gives me both parts I asked for wrong and tries to make me pay more, on a sheet I wrote that I wanted Kingston HyperX 4GB Kit 1600MHz DDR3. He goes and gets me a 6GB kit that is $30 more, and a motherboard that is $20 more, then explains that I didn't ask for the BLUE version.

Am I just being really picky?
He treats me like an idiot just because I'm 15, and then he even says "Should be more careful next time" as I'm walking out of the door.
I'm 100% sure that NO pins are even slightly out of place, and I really can't be bothered sending it to AMD and waiting weeks.

Same thing happened to me, I argueed for ages with the Guy (MSY Guy), I had no Bent Pins But he bent some pins when he put it back together, the customer service and Refund policy is terrible there, if they werent so damn cheap I wouldn't go there.

talk to his manager next time. if not then tell them you will contact the BBB and file a claim with your lawyer on charges of discrimination, and say "you can look forward to speaking with my lawyer for he will be contacting you soon".

Having lawyers send out letters is really cheap, but it is enough to get them scared.

As the customer you are not always right but you are always entitled be treated with respect. If you are getting condescended to ask to speak to a supervisor.

Next time escalate. If you ever get lip and really obnoxious or poor service always escalate. A good salesman never treats a customer like dirt, no matter what age the customer. So ask to speak the manager/owner and tell him exactly what happened and how that made you feel. At the very least the sales guy won't pull that crap with you again.

Not that you should ever do business there again if you can help it.

Not picky. You expect what you paid for. The "Dad" figure is for authority to get what YOU want. Trust me, I bring my dad, environment changes I get what I want .

I'm 15 myself, I usually go to the local computer store (NCIX, and they're actually pretty bigshot here in Canada) and no one has a problem with how old I am/tries to scam me because of it.

The guy at MSY was just being a total ass though; you should bring your dad next time and demand to speak to the manager.

Do not follow this advice. If someone came into my store to complain and the first thing out of their mouth was that they were suing me "on charges of discrimination" I would politely tell them to do what they felt best and leave it at that.

Most places will respond to well reasoned complaints. If one of my customers comes to me and says, I expected that the service entailed having my data transfered, it says so in my work order, and yet I am missing a bunch of files, then I will work to make that customer right, even if they are not necessarily 100% in the right.

If someone comes out threating from the get go they are going to get a lot less understanding and help from me, even if their case has some merit.

Also, verify pins are straight and when you go back before letting them touch it show it them, then show it fitting just fine in the socket. Hard to argue bent pins when it fits easily into the socket.

Dude MSY are terrible!! I have no doubt you had no bent pins. the ACCC is investigating them now for things like this not honoring warranties etc. I feel your pain man if your in Brisbane give me the receipt an chip I hate those geeks at MSY.
