MSY Tried Saying My CPU Pins Are Bent So No Refund, CLEARLY Not Bent. - Page 2

I tried taking it back to MSY today, in the line I hear a man looking for a monitor with a VGA port, the person behind the counter says "Nah, this monitor only has D-Sub and DVI." Idiot. Anyway, I get to him and say I had it for a week, broke in 5 days and explained how I swapped it out and got a boot.

He took out the CPU from the packaging, and he looked at me (I'm 15) and asked if I put it in myself, I say yes, then he looks at the chip and says instantly "Bent pins" notice the >>S<< on the end of pin. So he says there are bent pinS. I instantly say there aren't any because I already checked, then he says, "No, it's slightly bent - but still bent. Nope - I can't return this." He tries to put it back into the packaging but I ask to see it, It's instantly clear that there are no bends at all, not even slightly. I say again that there are none at all, so he takes it back, and says "Straight, Straight, Straight, Bent, this one right here." And points to the MIDDLE of the CPU pins. How would I have bent the middle CPU pin SLIGHTLY if the pins on the side are all fine?

Also notice how he says "This one right here" as if he is referring to only one pin this time, where as last time it was pinS. He is basically making up excuses not to give me a replacement. To prove he doesn't like me even more, he gives me both parts I asked for wrong and tries to make me pay more, on a sheet I wrote that I wanted Kingston HyperX 4GB Kit 1600MHz DDR3. He goes and gets me a 6GB kit that is $30 more, and a motherboard that is $20 more, then explains that I didn't ask for the BLUE version.

Am I just being really picky?
He treats me like an idiot just because I'm 15, and then he even says "Should be more careful next time" as I'm walking out of the door.
I'm 100% sure that NO pins are even slightly out of place, and I really can't be bothered sending it to AMD and waiting weeks.
I would take it to the tradeing standards and let them deal with it. They will give them a good beasting if your right and they are wrong

The dude is just taking advantage of you because of your age.

Also, he's an idiot to not know D-Sub = VGA.

Its because of the age, I was 11 when I built my first PC and the video card was dead I got my mom to take me to the store to get a replacement and when I walked out I held the card in my hands crying because the manager told me within a 3 minute visual inspection he looked at me saying, we can't replace this because it has been overclocked/overvolted to death. I didn't really say anything because I was 11 and some fat nerd was explaining that hardware can't be overclocked because it "ruins" it. Gave the card to mom and after 45 minutes of listening to the radio in the car she walked out with a brand new xfx GTX 8800 (I was trying to get a 8600GT replaced ^_^)

tl;dr get your dad to go in there and complain that he was rude ect ect and you demand a refund or replacement, might even walk out with something better

I'm really still annoyed at the way he was actually not even nearly intelligent enough to work with PC parts. He said it's a slight bend so I can't get a refund. "A bent pin is a bent pin."

Another point:
How would I know that the CPU was broken if it wasn't in my motherboard? I told him that it stopped working after a restart, I didn't even touch the CPU for five days. Unless the pins can magically bend by themselves whilst in the socket I don't see how he can even pretend it was me. The only reason I didn't get slightly angrier inside the shops is because of the fact people my age arent exactly renowned for their PC skills, anybody in the shop would also doubt that I was in the right, because the salesman was older than me, albiet by only maybe five to ten years.

I'm getting a feeling that if it's the same person he will try to say I've gone home and corrected the pins, and say that somehow he saw them bent yesterday, and that is the reason it doesn't work. The fault of the CPU is actually closer to being burnt, although I know for sure it wasn't burnt because I fitted it inside an AM2+ motherboard that had previously had another AM3 quad core inside it. This is the first CPU I have bought that has been faulty in any way, so it's incredibly annoying that it won't be the first faulty CPU I have, that I have gotten replaced.

And like a previous poster stated, if MSY weren't so cheap I wouldn't go there. It's only because I'm not old enough for a worthwhile job (in my opinion) that I don't have enough money to go to a more expensive store with better warranty.

This is the last time they are my first choice, and I will have a parent or adult with me at all times while buying sensitive parts from now on.

Also, thanks everyone for the support on this subject so far, but I'm actually going to try extremely hard to just get it quietly replaced using my dad as help before I start inviting the manager into the argument. We will see tomorrow though, if I don't get a replacement I'm going to have to do something more about this subject.

I can't say that he was 'rude' to me, because he had a kind of 'sly' way about it. He used quite a nice tone, it was the way he used his words to belittle me that was the problem. It was more that I could tell he either didn't like me or thought I wasn't old enough to know anything about computers. On a side note, it could be many more things, for example I'm from England, and have a strong English accent, saying there are bent pins is such an easy to use exclamation that even my nationality could be part of it.

Great story, I remember when I was 11 and I got my first good PC with an 8600GT in it. I too swapped out the 8600 for an 8800GTX, which sort of lead to me being able to build PCs.

Even thought MSY has very good pricing their customer service is horrible, Their warranty followups are ridiculous. Plus there are many other Computer stores that have similiar pricing to MSY within Australia , Try some other place next time Like Umart, PC DIY or PCCG

FYI, I don't use MSY and haven't used them due to impractical business practices.

I'm younger than you and I was even a couple years younger when I started PC building, always, always, take a parent. its worth it. I remember I was flashing my bios my foot hit the power bar, took it to the shop and they said I killed my cpu and mainboard

later on I found they swapped the bios chips

they always seem to want to go out of their way to be nasty to young kids with PC's however the stereotype is true 99% of the time
