I say go back in there and get it resolved solo. You should be able to take some of the good advice given here and get the situation worked out.

It'll be good to get that exp for the next time you have a problem (when someone tries to roll you) and for when your parents aren't around to fight your battles. It'll be more satisfying knowing you took care of business too.

Go to the Fair Trading, i live in AUS too, and only buy from PC case Gear, they have awesome customer service

Mate, if you feel so strongly, get your parents to contact fair trading, or do it yourself if your a adult.

MSY is a really bad store, i whouldn't bother with them

I'd take your dad, it's not impossible to do stuff alone but it's much more convincing if your dad is there.

By convincing I mean that, if you say you did something right and your dad is right behind you - you did it right.

I would go in and speak to a manager, perhaps compare it to one that is in "perfect" condition and get them to point out why yours is non-returnable. Good luck. Interested to hear the outcome.

I like the online stores. Umart always seems to have prices comparable to MSY. Maybe it's just the stuff I'm buying...

And for the few that have mentioned solicitor - don't. You'll pay more in legal fees than if you just bought the replacement. How much do you think it costs to have a decent solicitor send and receive a letter? Enough for me to upgrade to solid state... (Then again, maybe I just use expensive solicitors...)

I'm really trying to keep it 'low' for now, if anything happens again at all I will definitely be sorting something like that out. I got around $1,200 worth of components from PCCG for two PCs I built for my brothers, and also a few parts for 2 PCs I built for friends and my dad's PC.

On a side note, I know he doesn't know me - but after building a computer for 5 people in a couple of months, and rebuilding one of them 3 times for new case and later a new motherboard, I'm quite sure I know how to lower a CPU chip into it's socket without bending the pins. I actually considered working there last month when they had jobs open, I've completely changed my mind now and I couldn't stand to work at a company like that even if I got a chance.

Shop owners dont like it when 15 ur olds know more about computers then they do.
When I was 11 I had a friend who had only 128MB RAM, so I added in an extra 512MB for him which was quite a lot back then - for only 5 pounds ($7).

8 whole months later he tells me that I owe him a new PC because my RAM broke his whole computer, I ask how he knows - somebody at a computer shop told him a stick of RAM was bad inside his PC.

To this day we still argue about it, it was exactly the right type of RAM for his PC, just a larger memory version of the other RAM sticks he had - it was all Kingston. Also, if the RAM was bad - just take that stick out and it's all fine. Of course whoever worked at the shop wouldn't make it that easy and would say you need a new PC. Either that, or he didn't actually know you just replace the RAM.

Extremely annoying.

protip OP: Go to umart instead of MSY every time. Same price/cheaper and the customer service is infinitely better.
