Asus P5Q SE Plus & Q8300

Thread Starter
Hey all,

I just got my Asus P5Q SE Plus, and I tried to OC my Q8300.
I made it to 3.0 GHZ (400x7,5) so far, but I want to get it to 3.5/4 GHZ.

So, my RAM is 800 mhz, and if its stock (333x7.5), the lowest "choice" is 667 MHZ. If I OC it to 3.0 GHZ, the lowest "choice" is 800 mhz (so the perfect freq of my ram).

But how can I get my RAM lower, so I can set my FSB higher?
Because, if I set it to 3.5 GHZ (467x7.5), the lowest choice for my RAM becomes 937 mhz, and it does not boot with that freq.
So is it possible to clock my CPU to 3.5/4 ghz, and keep my RAM @ 800 mhz so it will boot?

Thanks in advance,
Remy

You will never get your Q8300 to 4GHz on any motherboard..

That motherbord is good for 450MHz (absolute max) FSB with Quad..

If you run @3.5GHz Prime95 LARGE FFT (at least 6h) you`ll see errors on cores..

Plus your RAM is holding you back as you can`t run your RAM lower than FSB (467MHz FSB x2 = 934MHz RAM)

3.2GHz is more likely for you to hit and to be Prime 95 LARGE FFT stable..

CHEERS..

I'll try it to run my RAM on 853 (426 FSB (*2 for ram) mhz.

Why isn't it possible to hit 4 GHZ?

Need probably too much voltage which will kill you cpu.

7.5x 440FSB should be very possible with that motherboard and CPU. 450FSB is not a given, because this is a low end P45 motherboard. Used to own a Asus P5Q SE2 myself. Almost the same mobo...

Can't get it beyond 3.2 GHZ. the real max is 425 FSB (*7.5) with my 800mhz ram on 851 mhz.

Checking stability right now.

440 doesnt work :S
