My only concern is that Sony will find a way to detect modified firmwares and ban such consoles from PSN. Even though I rarely play multiplayer games on my PS3, I prefer that this wouldn't happen.

Come on, Sony, just give us back our Other OS option and no one would have to put up with this anymore.
Dont worry about getting banned. Hackers can reflash the ps3 to show up as a new ps3 in sony's psn network easy. Hackers did it on psp.
Being able to run signed code lets you modify anything to your ps3.
Sony has no way to dodge this bullet.

Wow i can't believe the failure that Sony has become now. The Holy grail people have been searching for is now found, and hackers everywhere rejoice!. There is no fix for something that is the MASTER KEY, because that would mean replacing every disk on the shelf with a new one and new firmware and hardware to support the new key. No way Sony would do that

It's not the same kind of hack. They have full control over the PS3 now and you should technically be able to have the same firmware as everyone else. It's not like the 360's exploit hacks.

stupid that video was perfect.
Yea... I am a little pissed tbh cause last time I checked the thread wasn't derailing or anything. And it couldn't be the subject manner because there are now 3 threads talking about the same thing but in more detail.

I just wanted to know why it got deleted.

Well, The firmware is still different. Just because they are able to sign it doesn't mean Sony wont be able to tell the difference between the two. And when flashing 360 drives its more or less the exact same story. They ban you by comparing your drives firmware with the original. Since the CFW on ps3 has the ability to install signed homebrew its been modified in some way which will show up as being different.

This is my theory anyway, I may be wrong but im just curious. Maybe is they do start banning we will be able to restore the NAND to before it was hacked? But it may not be that simple like on the 360 you need two jtagged 360's as you need one non banned CPU key to transfer onto the banned 360 but this still causes implications.

We will just have to see, I doubt sony will go without a fight.

that won't work.

Having your private key compromised is a MAJOR security breach.

THe problem is that public key cryptography works by having a pair of keys, the public key which is given to everyone, and the private which MUST be kept a secret.

What they have been doing is using this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliptic_Curve_DSA is sign everything. If they change the private key then all the signatures generated using it would be invalid.

So they have to whitelist apps... which means the old key is still around... which means they have a problem.
