Friend for sure. I was just pondering the same type scenario, and chose an i7 920, mobo, ram upgrade at $400 instead of $600+ for sandy. Granted, my choice was between a proven golden chip and luck of the draw with SB, but same still applies. I think I made a good choice, and I think you will too by picking the friend option.

i5 2500K = $179.99 ($194 after tax)
MSI P67A GD65 or Gigabyte P67A UD4 ($179 / $199 tax not calculated)
Kingston HyperX 1600MHz ($90)

$480 to a little over $500 (including estimated tax on mobo)

The ram I've selected can be used for the P55 mobo or P67A mobo. So at the end of the day, there is still a $200 saving when comparing mobo/cpu purchase. As stated earlier, I prefer only SLI mobos.

Definitely the deal with your friend! Right now they will not be worth their price and added to that we are expecting other cpus to hit the streets in the not to distant future.

For gaming etc then that 760 is perfect.

1156 is a dead socket just like the x58 ones are, but they still work good, and cost less then sb. pick what ever you can afford right now.

Bite your friends hand off for that deal!
You could always go either sb or bulldozer later on in the year, but to be honest, a good overclock on the i5 will see you until nest year.

Okay, I got your opinion but what would you do between the 2 choices?
