Yea I see a mix of answers. Some saying get the best lol, which is half of what I usually do, and I will most likely also buy bulldozer setup WHENEVER THE HELL ITS RELEASED. Some saying get a quad. I kinda like the idea of a quad, cuz in reality nothing I do will benefit from 6 cores. I don't have any apps that use 6 cores and the it won't overclock any higher than a quad but it'd still be nice. But I like BE also not just cuz its "easier" to overclock but because it allows for higher OC's sometimes. I have hit walls with FSB OC and the multi gave me some more wiggle room. So basically still undecided.

We've got the same processor now, how far have you pushed your 740? I'm guessing the Crosshair will give you a little higher OC, but I know a 955 or 965 would definitely be a step up, and 6 cores will be a leap ahead. Personally I'm waiting to see if prices will drop in response to Sandy Bridge though before upgrading.

Yes I know, I've heard that (and said it) for like the past 6 mos. Tired of waiting and I'll still get a Bulldozer setup when it comes out.

Unlocked I had it up to 3.8 if I remember correctly, not stable though, and as tri I have it at 3.6 stable. Not bad, but will be doing lots of benching soon and dry ice and phase, so want more great chips to push.

Nice, nice. I have mine at a tad under 3.8 stable unlocked. And if that's the case, then you should go 1090T, but wait for a few more days and see what happens in the market.

Get the 1055T, save a few bones and have fun overclocking and not just raise one multiplier to OC. Sorry if this is candid but I find BE chips for noobs and the not so interested in overclocking.
