To clarify on this, if I understand correctly, there is two integer cores and one 256 bit FPU per module.

Please correct if wrong.

I think what he means is that Intel's first Quad cores were two dies with 2 dual core.

2 integer cores and 2 128-bit FMACs that can merge into a single 256-bit AVX engine.

It would probably run slower. As a single thread, there is a lot of dependency. That dependency would create stalls and gaps if you tried to run it on 2 cores because they would keep waiting for each other.

Doesn't Bulldozer have 128-bit cores? Correct me if I'm wrong. It would be nice if it were 256-bit cores.

I think he was referring to Intel Core 2 Quad vs AMD Phenom. The Core 2 Quad was basically 2x Core 2 Duo dies slapped together in the same package while the original AMD Phenom was already a "true" quad core. Unfortunately, the "true" quad core thing didn't really matter that much to most applications (albeit, there are a few niche apps that showed huge preference for the Phenom's architecture).

that's exactly right
I remember when people were waiting for the phenom HUGE hype was made about "true" quad core > dual duo cores
Am I the only 1 who remembers this?
Either way it wouldn't surprise me if Intel's HT is still better than amd's modules
remember to hope for the best and prepare for the worst
I hope that BD will stump all over SB but i'm prepared to accept that it won't
As long as i get 50% over thubans and i7 like an article says i'm sure i'll still be happy

At the very least, andos and I also remember so you're not the only one.

I actually expect Bulldozer's approach to work better than HyperThreading but that's only good for heavily threaded apps or heavy multi-tasking. What Bulldozer really needs to catch up to is Intel's performance in single-thread execution.
