Pixxo 600W psu for $24.... is this crap?

Thread Starter
To all the gurus out there,

is this a bad power supply?

http://www.meritline.com/pixxo-pw-60...--p-45741.aspx

this is being considered for a basic system, no overclocking, nothing special.

Yes it is.

Those specs are pretty funny. 25A on the +5VSB? What, are you going to run 500 USB devices at once or something? Idiotic.

Two fans eat up a lot of space in that unit, the actual PSU electronics are probably filling only a quarter of the device. Expect an ancient half bridge unit that tops out a 300W with ripple off the scope.

prob crappy but it should still work.

i bought a raidmax a couple of years ago and it's still running great, yet all the guru's have so much hate on it. though i spent $15 on it, and can't be any happier.

I have been using this budget PSU in all the computer I've built in the last few years and none of them have caused any problems.

Edit: but I dont use the above PSU in any computers with a GPU higher than a geforce 250.

The one you listed is probably over rated. I doubt there would be any PSUs with 50A on the 12v rails for so cheap.

It's a ****ty SunPro that tops out at 300W. Good luck, mate.

Raidmax's PSUs are mostly overrated Andyson units. They're mediocre and can rarely do more than 60% of the labeled wattage, but they aren't the absolute worst PSUs ever made.

Sigh, now here come all the "I used a $20 PSU and it hasn't burst into flames yet, 5 stars! derp though I have had to replace the hard drive five times and the motherboard glitches constantly" crowd.

lol its worth getting a decent psu not cause it might quite because it causes damage to other components

Hey, Phae, did you ever get a chance to look at the PSU in the Pixxo case? It's a cheapo deapo for sure, but it looks like it's the only PSU that can fit in the case.

This is the case.

If you need, I can take it out and rip it apart to get some pics of the internals. I have it sitting on a desk in front of my stress testing right now. I am not running anything heavy, i3, 430gt, but I would like to know just how crappy it is and if I should start the arduous task of finding another that will fit and is of higher quality.

Edit: No kiddin, you live in NO? I am from BR, living in Gonzales atm though.
