GTX 570, is this normal

Thread Starter
I just gotmyself a gtx 570 a few days ago and I've just started haveing some problems with it tonight,

It seems to make a strange wineing noise when It's playing a game and in msi afterburner the fan speed doesnt really seem to increase. the temps go from 40c at idle to around 86 when playing crysis

But the main reason I'm worried is that in certain games the GPU usage spikes to 100% im talking games like crysis and dawn of war 2.

Is this normal for a card? the GPU usage?

Sounds like you might have a buggerd fan. Possibly an RMA.

The fan on these cards are pretty quiet... Can you confirm it is speeding up at load, using MSI Afterburner..??
Also GPU usage being at 100% is not a bad thing, and totally normal in demanding games such as Crysis..
Also the whining noise can be explained by capacitor whine, which is usually caused by the coils causing the caps to whine.. This can be exaggerated even more by overclocking..
Some say cap whine is normal. Others say its a reasonable reason to RMA a card, that decision I leave up to you. Its not hurting your card tho.

gona run crysis bench for a few loops and see If i can re create the problem to be 100% sure.

The fan thing happens in every single game I play,

GPU usuage only in a few games does it constantly stay at 100%

I would say 86c isnt unnormal for the stock 50% fan profiles of these beasts. The whining sound could be the capacitors screaming, as thats pretty normal with these type of cards, but then again it would probably have been there from the start. I had that with my previous gtx280, but actually the 570 is free of this in my case. You can do a lot worse than downloading MSI Afterburner and make your own fan profile to get the temps down, if you figure out what cause the noise is that is.

Edit: Damned Capwn. You beat me to it

Yeah you paid a lot of money for the card so if the Fan isn't up to par no problem with RMAing that bad boy.

I run my fan at 75% when I game and it keeps temps at a very reasonable 60-65C in BFBC2 no matter how long I play. I hear no noises from mine other than the vacuum cleaner that is the fan running on high speeds.

well the card isnt overclocked at all,

the fan speed on msi afterburner is going up to 52% max and load temp of 72C.

I'm going to record the noise it makes with my case fans turned down so that I can demonstrate what is is

Same here (but with my GTX470s). But if you do actually have a fan problem, you need to get a new one via normal.

100% GPU usage is normal with crysis haha. You will need at least 2 in SLi to see less usage (at max settings anyways).

Good luck man!

whining noise if the sound of the caps's most cards and even psu's have whining caps, some worse then others. as for the gpu ussage, thats a good thing, that means yoy don't have a cpu bottleneck and the card is working to its fullest potential.
