Canon Rebel XS? - Page 2

Is warranty for 9month worth 50$ in your opinion? The XSI from Adorama is 495 shipped w/1 year warranty from them. The XSI from canon is 445 w/90days warranty, which one would you pick?

It depends on the person. For me, I've been buying all my gear used from other uses on POTN and never ran across any issues, so I'd rather buy from Canon with the 90 day warranty.

With other users though, if they were to drop hundreds on a single piece of equipment, understandably they'd want more protection for their money so the Adorama deal might be better for them.

In the end, it's all personal preference. I myself haven't had any issue with my gear yet (and neither has my brother and two friends who've I introduced into photography and got their gear used as well), but of course, in the end it's your money (and quite a bit of it really) so it's your decision

Out of their price ranges. Besides, the image quality between the two cameras are almost the same, and unless they need video or better high ISO performance, I don't really see a reason to, esp if they want to spend the least amount of money possible. Besides, lenses, not bodies.

I am going to order the xsi tonight and was planning on getting a prime lens with it. I am going to explain which shot I am trying to take and see if this is a good choice. The shot will be a person throwing darts in a low light environment with the dart just leaving the hand. I believe the 50mm Canon prime that everyone seems to talk about will be a good choice. What do you all think? Any other accessories that are a must have? So I can tell my fiancée and friends parents some good birthday ideas???

With a low light environment, a fast prime would be the best pick, in which case, the 50mm f/1.8 for its price and performance.

Even then though you might not get the shot. To capture the dart well, you'd need a high shutter speed, and even wide open you might not have enough light for a proper exposure.

Personally, I'd also add on a flash or even my own lighting, but it's just me. My biggest concern really is that the aperture still won't be enough to compensate for a fast shutter speed, and the XSi starts showing noise around ISO800 so I'd say that's about as much as I'd feel comfortable pushing the ISO up to.

The canon is a good camera. I would recommend a Pentax K-x over the original rebel, but can't go wrong either way.
