Need help building HTPC

Thread Starter
So I am planning to build one here pretty soon, nothing too expansive want to stay within a small budget.

The primary purpose of this would be to stream video from this site
ntntv.net for most of the day
I would also like to add some of my movie collection to it for easy access to its main HDD

Right now I am streaming from my laptop to the tv however, the quality isn't great because i am using VGA cable, also this laptop isn't mine so I can't keep it there for long.

What will I need to get?

If you were near a Microcenter you could get a x2 Athlon II 250 and a MSI 785g board for ~$80 with a $20 MIR.
Add 2 gigs of RAM, a HDD, PSU and case and your good to go.

What it the TV resoultion (720 or 1080) and is it HD content your streaming?

My tv is 1080 and the content isn't HD, do I need an SSD or raid? I am not planning on buying all the HDD at once so raiding means I have to reformat everytime I add an HDD right?

SSD for what your doing is a waste of money.

My RAID knowledge is limited, but you can buy 1 HDD for now and install the OS on it and any storage, and then as storage needs grow, buy some larger drives and move the data onto them, but keep the smaller drive with the OS only, so no need to re-format.
RAID arrays can be rebuilt and moved, but not sure of all the details.

You don't need ssd or raid.
If you get a new HD or RAID you will have to reformat everything. If you ever break or create a RAID you will have to reformat. Start to reorganize your data on storage devices so you can make changes without it affecting you too much.
