What driver version are you running??
Some of the older sets had this issue of idling hot when in multi monitor mode.
the 480s seem to have always ran quite hot

i am running version 8.17.12.6099

I mean it run hot, but just on idle on dual monitors, the temperature is around 72 C. i think that is not normal.

73 sounds high but when you put multi monitor it idle at higher clock to insure screen synchronization. Dose your temp in cress under load? what are your clocks running at.

Same happens to me when I connect two monitors to my 480. I added another cheaper video card and connect one monitor to it and one to the 480. That takes care of the higher temps for me.
