Why is it so hard to decide?

I need some good headphones under $300 for Black Friday 2011 (a bunch of new stuff will come out so I will be searching for a complete year for some cans I will be able to call heaven). Which ones are best for mostly gaming and listening to music? I found a couple and yes I've looked @ Head-Fi.org and I still can't decide.

-Audio Technica ATH-A700
-Audio Technica ATH-M50s
-BeyerDynamic DT 990 Pro
-BeyerDynamic DT 880 Pro
-BeyerDynamic DT 770M
-BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pro

I need something that's comfortable and sounds really good (audio noob. Don't know much). I don't need a headset (I was considering the PC360 but I was thinking why would I need a microphone for playing Dirt 3 ?(once it comes out)). Thanks everybody!

Edit - over ear would be nice.

you can afford much better. Like computer parts, you're much better off deciding at the time.

Actually, I'm not the person who knows a lot about headphones and audio and I don't know the headphones out there in the whole world right now. I need help!

There are a few version of each of those Beyerdynamics. There's the 32,250 and 600ohms version for each.If you dont own or plan to own an amp. the 32ohms is for you. Also those headphones differ from one another in that the dt770 is closed back, the dt880 is semi-open and the dt990 is fully open.Search for yourself what each design has to offer.Do you have a soundcard??

I can expect new ones to come out but right now I'm thinking about the Asus Xonar Essence STX or the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD.

I believe the HD peaks at 330 ohms. Grab the STX if you want future proof (if you don't end up eventually wanting a pair of headphones that have 600 ohms of impedence then the HD will do fine too).

the essence stx has alot of power and can probably handle 600ohm beyers on high gain...
you can also upgrade the opamps in them

In terms of PC cards i think the ST/STX is right up there in terms of what should be considered Hifi.

I have the ad700s and the m50... my akg 701's would probably be comparable to 880s in both desired sound and price.. Hands down if i had to pick one with would be the 701s... Ideally I would say get the 880s and the m50... one open one closed.

TBH i use all 3 of them... alot... but if i had to pick a single one it would be difficult... the 701s can pretty much do everything you throw at it and do it well.
