I had them but traded them because the bass was too loud and muddy. Listening to rock was ruined by it and listening to club music was downright uncomfortable.
But then I'm sensitive to bass.

Try to find the RX700. Unfortunately they're $60 on Amazon right now, they're normally almost always on sale at $35-45 there.

I was in a different price range, but I listened to advice here and got a good set of headphones and a clip-on mic. The headphones are fantastic, but I want to get a new headset now with a boom mic. Don't let anyone tell you clip-on mics are good enough. Nobody can hear me with that piece of garbage (and yes, I bought the one that is pretty much recommended everywhere: the Zalman). If you enjoy playing games one-handed so you can lift the mic up in front of your mouth whenever you want people to actually hear you, then disregard my advice.

Stick to your plan and get a headset if you're planning on actually using the mic.

I'm on a vent with more than a dozen people. Half have the zalman clip on with no problems. The other half have headsets with crappy mics (bad static).
Your zalman's probably proken.

I have these as well, they sound great to me (though i am no audiophile). And you can find them cheap if you look around. Oh and the flip down mic works good as well.

My girlfriend got a similar setup with the same clip-on mic. Hers was crappy too.

HD 202s are great for the price. Compared to cans much higher I wouldn't say "Oh em gee!" Clip on mics are not that bad, I always got poor feedback with my zal-man. If you could mod a headset and grab the mic off it, it will sound a lot better. I'm actually using the creative alpha headphones just for the mic itself as the mic specs would very well with my speakers.

If you end up using your old mic try looking for a better pair of headphones in the price range. I think the HD202s can be had for around 40 CAD these days.

Music taste is very different to people. Like, they aren't "amazing" headphones but do very well for their price tag. In this price range he is quite limited to cans that are going to be either bass heavy or non bass heavy. Up the budget a bit and I'm sure he'll get better.

I'm more of a bassy guy I guess. But my musical taste are no where near bassy. Game wise I like to have bass that reacts much like bass so headphones such as the HD555s or equal are not that great. Open backs do not produced that well of a "sound stage" when they can't replicate good bass sounds. But that is just my opinion.

Good luck on your choice.
