Nvidea or ATI? - Page 4

Because clocks really aren't all that matters. You have to take into account how many processing cores there are as well. But know that a CUDA core (NVIDIA) is exponentially more powerful than one found on an ATI card (Stream processors I believe) but that's why ATI/AMD pack more on their GPU's.

Take for instance my last card was a AMD/ Gigabyte 6870 with 1120 Stream Processors and a 900mhz core clock. Fast forward one month and I now have a GTX 570 from Nvidia which has a core clock of 732mhz with 480 CUDA cores.

The Nvidia is much faster with seemingly less hardware. You may say well why is that? AMD has higher numbers! It's all about power and utilization of the hardware at hand, not the sheer number of things.

More is not always better.

Wish people would learn to use the search "Nvidia or ATI" because it only gets asked every other day...

I wasn't actually trying to argue for one side or the other. More or less trying to reinforce the fact that core clocks, memory clocks and processor core #'s don't mean as much for GPU's as they do CPUs.

Right now it's impossible to sway one way or the other based solely on numbers that you can find of a specs page online. These numbers simply don't mean as much as you seem to think they do.

Because of the vastly different architectures of the two brands clocks are dependent on the hardware they are akin to.

Simply put don't compare card A to card B just because they have similiar clocks. The only thing right now that helps you properly compare the two companies is price point.

The 6970 compares to the GTX 570 and so on.

If TL;DR: Core and memory clocks don't mean much anymore when cross comparing video cards.

nVidia for Graphics, nVidia for folding, ATI for people who want to say they are budget conscious, but still spend $300+ on a GPU.
