That is good for just smp. If you get any bigadv's you will get around 50k ppd. If you get faster memory your ppd will go up 1k-3k ppd more when doing -bigadv's.

If you want, JMattes, you can install TeamViewer on your Windows rig and I can remote desktop in and set up FAH for you.
If that is the case, you can start by downloading the Ubuntu 10.10 ISO here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/10.10/ubuntu-10.10-alternate-amd64.iso
Since I would rather just install everything myself for more PPD since I can optimize too.

'03 complete. But getting the stupid FILE_IO_ERROR when it tries to downloads a new bigadv, it was going on for 8h before I noticed (I really hope these doesn't count towards the QRB). sozo.gif

And NO for bigadv you do not want to put the -advmethods flag on in either the config setup, or run command.

Best guide for VM bigadv setup is Digi's.

Since JM would be our i7-2 guy there really would be no point to to go with a Ubuntu install (nor corefix), I'd go with the VM image he now has installed (if he get it up running as he wants that is). Running that would be his best bet since it's made especially for folding, it's non-GUI but I don't think that wouldn't make a world difference TBH but it's not really a drawback (expect it's a bit more fiddley to start with).

I also offer to help you over Teamviewer, JM.

Yea that may be the best to just get this up and running. I think you both fix this faster than it would take to explain. Ill download the iso and get poweriso to open it. Hopefully I can do this shortly.. I am not around normally on weekends and was hoping to have this set up last night to just run all weekend :/

Thanks for all the amazing help guys ill let you when i got it installed and I guess who ever is online could help me and take it from there.

Just thought about this. When i was testing my 3930k the best smp PPD i was getting was actually on v7 with the a4 core WUs. Now i know they made some bonus calculation changes but it may still be that case. With that chip it was like 30k PPD more than running advmethods on the 6.34 client. Food for thought. and its the easiest to set up.

JM you may want to give this a try.

But if we set him up folding Ubuntu in a VM (which I would love to do), then he will get lots more PPD.

A month ago i would have agreed with you but thats just wasn't the case. I ran that chip through every client to get a database of PPD going. And doing smp client it saw the best PPD in v7 on the A4 core WUs. Heck even 6.34 in Windows was as fast as 10.10 in a VM. The ONLY reason to run linux in a VM at this point in time is to run bigadv. There are no other advantages to it otherwise.
Excuse the chicken scratch notes.
