No Way! I couldnt do that to the team! I would just swap out motherboards and continue folding on my sig rig. This would give me time to install what ever linux platform you guys are suggesting and maybe have one of you guys remote in and help me set it up and possibly explain to me how it all works. Since I dont have much experience with Linux. Then by friday everything will be set up and I just have to pop in the H100 and we would be good to go for the next month!

Its just tricky to unplug everything, unscrew my current motherboard and screw a new one in without having to take my rad out or unscrew it..I may just do it tomorrow..

James what you do is literally write out each step you need to do to make the swap. Basicly make yourself an exact check list of your steps. Have your parts all laid out. I found it will let you make a full component switch in about 30 min compared to an hour or 2.

Ive gotten so good at it I can tare down and rebuild my rig and only lose about 15 min of folding time!!! And since you already know your chips stable OC settings and what your Bios settings (ASUS to ASUS swap right?) yopu can get those set in 5 min.

BOOM you're up and running in now time. Then you can slow down and take your time rebuilding your non folding rig.

BTW.. I folded my 2500k @ 5.1 w/ like 1.45 vcore 24/7 with a H70. Max core was 73c. ZERO problems. That H100 will have no problems with your OC 24/7. thumb.gif

OH yeah. And finally recovered this month from the GPU swap and my own goof-up losing 4 hrs of folding time. SO....

Asus P8Z68 V-Pro Gen 3 to Asus P8P67 Pro

Would chip stability be the same? Can I just run it as is.. or shoudl I install new bios?

Its just a matter of removing it the mobo with my rad in the way.. It was a mod and it may be difficult and alittle more time consuming. I wish I could get to 5.1 with a lower vcore.. my chips are pooh pooh.

Hey $ilent, here is a good guide i used to dual boot at one time.
http://lifehacker.com/5403100/dual+boot-windows-7-and-ubuntu-in-perfect-harmony
If you use Ubuntu w/ the GUI you have Firefox for normal web browsing. But gaming you are VERY limited from what I've read.
And these #s will obviously be inflated as I was doing this with a 3930k but on a VM I was getting 117624 PPD on a 6903. Switched over to native and jumped to 140922!! So like a 27% increase...

So I couldnt boot with Ubuntu and play BF3 on that?

Also this might be dumbest question ever, but whats difference between linux/native linux/ubuntu?

And what is a distro?

either put dram to 1.65v?

Or workers failing can be down to cpu instability...you sure its not that?

Damn...Ok id say load the new bios if you haven't yet. And like $ilent said, bump your ram voltage to 1.65.

And what is a distro?

Someone else will need to jump in to help me out on this.

1) You MAY be able to find a way to run it using WINE. But i would have no idea where you would even start. Try googling. OR opening up a thread in the Linux area to see if they have any ideas.
2) Linux is the common name of the open source code that we all use. Linux native just means you boot straight into Linux rather than running it through a VM. And Ubuntu is a specific variation of Linux (like Windows 7 or Windows xp).
3) A distro is short for distribution.Which means its a specific source of Linux code. ie... Ubuntu 10.10 distribution, or Fedora 15 distribution.

That is about as clear as I can put it...
And remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question... Just stupid people that ask the questions!! biggrin.gif

I would put the 2133mhz ram on the folding machine with XMP profile. Faster memory does not help for gaming that much. You will not notice that 1 extra frame.
