Yep, this is the place to be
You do have a great rig already though OP.. Reason for upgrading?
On my side though.. I think my rig bottlenecks like a *****.. :L
Q8300 @ 2.5ghz & GTX 470 are not good together apparently.
Though I am upgrading to 6GB of Kingston DDR2, HyperX RAM next week. (from 2GB) for £67.
Will I see much improvement?

thanks man Reason for upgrade? well, like 95% of the people on this site, E-PEEN!!!!! Think about it, do we REALLY need the video cards we have? Hell no! But its sure nice for bragging rights and appeasing that e-peen itch in the back of our brain, lol. We spend hundreds of dollars for a few extra FPS! Everyone's guilty, lol.

im confident an i7 at over 4.0GHZ cant be bottlenecked, my reasoning behind this is the fast communication between the CPU NB and GPU's (QPI)

Mixed with insane memory bandwidth and transfer speed's which can keep up with the clock cycle's of an OC'ed i7. making a bottleneck IMPOSSIBLE.
Ok Yoko. I'm not going to waste my time trying to coax 4.5GHz out of my processor w/o a commitment from you to admit you're wrong if I prove my point.

Before you answer this, I want you to look closely at the first two graphs I posted from my Crysis run. Specifically, look at the GPU usage levels at 2.8GHz (STOCK speed, not 'underclocked', btw) and then at 4.1GHz. Do you notice how the usage is much higher at 4.1, along with the FPS being much higher? Do you also notice how, at 4.1, the GPU usage is still not maxed out, rather, it looks to be in the range of 70% usage on average?

So ... would you care to be polite, admit you were mistaken, and not make me go to the trouble of proving beyond the shadow of a doubt that you are incorrect when I OC my proc up to 4.5GHz, and I get a noticeably higher score than I do at 4.1GHz? Cause I absolutely guarantee that it's going to happen ... I know it, and you know it.

And if I DO go to the trouble of prove what I'm saying with an actual 4.5GHz run, will you commit now to admit that you were mistaken ... or at the very least, uh ... 'refine' your initial statement once again regarding the impossibility of an i7 showing a bottleneck?

Btw, to add to what brett (I thought we were an autonomous collective?) is stating, at 4ghz (3.990 to be exact) my gpu usage hovers around 80%, and dips to the 50s. I'm 'stepping up' to a 970 which I plan to squeeze at least 4ghz out of, and when I add a 3rd 580 to the mix, I'm positive I'll see the same 75-80% gpu usage, if not less...even with 2-way sli and a 970, I doubt I will see constant 99% gpu usage out of both my cards.

Don't talk about bottlenecking if you haven't a clue as to what a cpu bottleneck truly is...only way I can see that bottleneck ease up, is if you truly push your gpus, running a highly gpu dedicated game, and at the same time you're running at 5760x1080 and above, and even then I'd imagine a mildly overclocked i7 not able to keep up.

*Forgot to add, this was while playing Mafia II @ 5760x1080.

Once again, the OP asked if his CPU would bottleneck his GPU. Not the other way around

Huh? So how would one test it if its impossible?

Water. Starting off with RX360+240, then will probably mod for a 480 later on. Modded MCP655, clear tygon, bunch of ek blocks and bitspower stuff. (cpu/gpus/nb/sb/mosfets all under water soon)

Yoko is dead wrong. We have seen sandy bridge pull higher frame rates than gulftown. Bandwidth isn't as important than per clock performance. 16 extra lanes wouldn't matter in a non sli situation. When ivy bridge gets here you will be proven wrong when it smashes every record. Fermi is gonna be bottlenecked for a long time.
