Thread Starter
just build this i7-950 rig.....(gonna return it all for 1155-2600k stuff)....will i see any benifit on adding a dedicated phys-x card with SLI 570s? i have a GTS 450 laying around im not even using....i read some posts that it can accually be worse...thanks in advance

Well if you have the extra card laying around there is no harm in testing it out. If you like it then keep it, if you dont' like it then don't use it.
The only definitive answer is to actually try it out.
I mean, as you already have the card, why not just install it and see if it helps/hurts as a dedicated Physx card? It is not like you have to pull out your wallet to buy it at the risk of futility.

But, I reckon the GTS450 will likely to enhance the performance. As to how much, I wish you will do the experiment and share here.

SLIed 570s are pretty powerful already. Don't bother using the 450 as a dedicated physx card, It will have little to no effect, considering how very very few games utilize physx that greatly. But if you wanna try, you can use it and run some benchmarks, if you like the results, stick with it

no, SLI 570s have more than enough horsepower to process physX by them selves.

The performance loss going from 16x 16x to 8x8x8x will hurt too. (assuming that you would get a NF200 equipped board)

I doubt you'd ever see worse perf using a dedicated card of the power of a 450 to handle physX, personally.

I'm actually not a fan of running PhysX directly on an SLI set. It's better to have a dedicated card.

Reason being, physX runs on only one card ... but two cards in SLI need to be running very close to the same speed.

So what happens is, the 'hit' incurred from running physX on the one card sorted gets doubled, because the other card (the one not running physX) has to slow down to the same speed.

That is false. 16x + 16x has little to no difference with 8x + 8x. It has no real-world effects. Except for tiny (1-5%) differences regarding performance on synthetic benchmarks. And the OP doesn't even bench (I think..)
