SATA Drive Boot

Thread Starter
Hi All,

I have a PC that has Win7 installed on primary drive, I then Turn off the PC install a second SATA Drive and boot, it takes an age longer to post (recognising IDE SATA etc) then continues to do absolutely nothing and gets stuck saying press F1 to enter BIOS, once you try to go in BIOS it just completely locks up.

With just the one drive it boots fine. When I install the second drive whilst windows is running (via plugging in SATA cable which I know is dangerous but who cares) and actually recognising the drive and I can use it i.e store stuff

SATA is hot swappable, therefore no danger to add whilst the system is running.
IDE was not, your system would typically hard lock when doing so.

I'd run a SeaTools scan on the drive in question.

Also, do you have any kind of SMART data for this drive?
You can use something like SpeedFan to generate a report.

you need to go into bios after you install new drive and choose the right sata drive to boot. Its defaulting to the new drive and that needs to be changed back to the old drive.
