You know if you buy an AM3 board, you'll have to get new RAM, right?

his old motherboard supported DDR2 and DDR3 so if he was using DDR3 he will be fine.

Also I would suggest spending a bit more on your motherboard. The Asus you linked still has no mosfet heatsinks and a 4 phase power. If you can get the Asus M4A87TD EVO instead.http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/asus-m...08205-pdt.html

or even better the M4A88TD EVOhttp://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/asus-m...08130-pdt.html

This motherboard OC's fine. I had an x3 720 BE on it and got it to 3.6ghz. Even then, I doubt the OP is gonna overclock.

Maybe so-but there are other reasons besides overclocking potential to go with the newer 8 series chipset.USB3 and SATA 6Gb/ps being a couple.

And non of those are worth 30 quid more. The motherboard the OP has picked will suffice.

Yeah those motherboard are 'better' but is he gonna need it? Probably not...

I mean SATA 6 isnt even utilized on a mechanical keyboard, and USB 3.0 is slowly working its way in.

Oh he had one of those DDR2/DDR3 boards.

Those trip me out.

Times change.Already the best budget SSD out there, the Crucial REALSSD needs SATA 6Gb/ps to run it's best. Why not spend 30 more quid if he has it to future-proof his build. And you never know-he came to overclock.net-before you know it he will have the bug and want some free performance.
