Nah, not really, I said if he is gettin 3MB/sec he is getting about 2x what he should be on a 16Mb connection. 16Mb/sec = 2MB/sec, more realistically around 1.6-1.8MB/sec which is around 1/2 of his speedtest.

Where is you PC at in your room OP? If it's tucked in a corner it could be killing you signal strength. Could you provide us with some screenshots of the network connection?

true. but I'm pretty sure he said "Mb" not "MB"

:edit:

strike that. he said "mbps" which is neither
but his speedtest screenshot obviously says "Mb"
and slytown started the trend of saying Bytes instead of bits

It depends on your area and your ISP. 1.6 for me would be a horrible speed since i have a 35/35 package and normally see around 40.

No point in comparing your internet to someone who has a much faster one.

Shrimpykins is correct. 8mbps/8 megabit/8mbit = 1mb/s (1 megabyte). 16mbps is 2mb/s and so on.
Simplified; 8 count network = 1ct hard drive.
Though the speedtest the OP ran (speedtest.net) is based on mbps so he's probably getting around 200-250kb/s (reference 1024kb/s = 1mb/s).

OP: Hardwire the laptop, try different speedtest locals and report that.

not exactly. It's "case sensitive" so to speak....

and I didn't think about that, he may not even be on his own wireless network if that's not his ISP that shows up in speedtest

If you computer is near your router, use ethernet. That will always be faster than Wi-Fi.
