Phenom II x4 965 at 803mhz

Thread Starter
Just recently brought a new motherboard and cpu the motherboard is an AsRock N68C-S UCC. I really have no idea what I was thinking when I brought this, I should of the checked the cpu support list. My Phenom II x4 965 is not supported by this board and is running at 803mhz with cool n quiet disabled and the latest bios update. Is there anyway around this? and am I doing any damage to my cpu? Any help appreciated, thanks.

You aren't doing any damage to the CPU, its underclocked and probably undervolted when it runs at 803mhz. If cool n quiet is disabled, then try manually setting the multiplier to its correct value in the bios, which is i believe 17 for the 965.

The best you could do is ensure the EPS connector is connected properly and supplying power. It's a 4 pin, as well. Try updating the BIOS and see if that helps. If not, then I doubt you'll get that chip out of idle mode.

The chipset on that board is several years old, and very slow. It would be best to return it and get something newer, to hardness that chip. I know you're trying to save money, but this board is not helping in the least.

Okay thanks for the replies. I've tried putting the multiplier up to 17 in the bios but it is already set at 17 but ASRock OC tuner is telling me its a 4 but OC tuner also won't let me change it from 4. Your comment though cow did make me think of something. This motherboard is 24 pin I have a 20 pin and two 4 pins from my psu. One of my 4 pins is attached to the 20 pin to make it 24 pin and i'm pretty sure that's what it's there for but do you think maybe this is causing a problem?

Bingo..you have no EPS power going to the CPU, since you added it to the ATX supply. Without that you're going nowhere, really slowly. You may need to look into a better power supply, too.

Sounds to me like you need two new things. A new PSU and a new motherboard.

Trust me, if you spend good money on a motherboard it will last.
I bought my DFI in november of 2008 and it still will take my Cpu to 4ghz and beyond.
It also supports all the quad cores, not sure about the x6 chips though.

I am still using the bios that came on the board when i bought it too.

I have connected EPS power because I have 2 4 pin connectors one which is made to connect to the 20 pins and the other which I've always used as EPS with no problem.

Well I think I will be getting a new mobo anyway it's too small. My tiny graphics card even covers the slots below. What motherboard do any of you suggest under £100

Is that price including shipping?

I'd go with a 790 chipset to start with, and probably something from Asus or Gigabyte (former well before latter). Biostar has had some good success in boards lately, and might be worth looking into for cheap. MSI is still on my hate list.
