Hey

I thought of buying a EVGA GTS450...
but i doubt about the cooler in it , it looks like that it is only a lump of aluminium.. and i want to weather that cooler is enough for the 450..

Thanks..

The stock reference cooler is fine unless you want to overclock. Overclocking will req an aftermarket cooler to do so well.

Not true.
I have both of mine OC to 900/1800/2000 (from 822/1645/1804 and 882/1764/1800) folding 24/7 and if I set the fan at 45%, temps never get above 65°c (ambient is around 74°F). On auto fan, temps get up to ~75° with the fan speed going to around 40%. I can't hear the fan (starts really making sound around 50%). If I set it at 100%, temps are around 55-58°.
Idle is around 43°c.
I am sure if I replaced the stock TIM with some AS 5 or MX-2 I would have even better temps.

I have not tried any higher yet (only had the cards a month), but I probably still have some headroom (although I may be selling one soon).

The GTS 450 doesn't run that hot. I have a total of three EVGA 450s, two are factory overclocked to 920 and the last one I overlclocked myself to 900. None of them run over 60°c when I fold, Idle is around 30°c-35°c. This is with a gtx460 folding at 85-90°c in the same case. Before I added the 460, I had three 450s folding in the same case and they were around 50°c when I was folding on them.

Nope, wintertime. Case temps are around 34°C

I have one if the cards in my garage caseless, and ambient temps were in the low 80's (F) and the card was running about the same temps.

The 450 is not near as hot a card as it's big brother the 460 (which is not that hot either).

The dual slot coolers work fine for the EVGA cards in my experience. Worst case is you get it and have to get aftermarket cooling late (which I really doubt you will need to). Or just get one of the MSi or Asus cards with better cooling for more money.

Bingo.

OC'd mine to 880/1760 I am getting loads in the low/mid 50's, on EVGA reference cooler @ 54% fan, on stock TIM.

do u mean that the 450's cooling is way more better the cooling in the 460's?
i am asking this because i heard that we can't get 450's anymore in Sri lanka,so i thought getting a 460,but not sure whether it will work out well with my psu.

It depends on which "coolers" you are comparing. If your comparing a reference cooler with a single fan, on a 450 and 460, the 450 will be a few degrees cooler.

460's are generally very cool running cards, some as low as 50c on full load. When my OC'd 450 did work, I was getting right around 50, 51c full load, with a 900/1800 OC.
