[Joystiq]Dragon Age 2 first DLC named 'The Exiled Prince'; Teaser - Page 3

shouldnt have to bribe people to buy your game.

This is definately a game that i am going to wait for reviews before i touch it.

That means this DLC isnt free. The price you pay is you have to preorder to get it, not quite free.

Bioware has only been about DLC since they were bought out by EA. At which point bioware has gone done the crapper.

That's not right at all. DLC has to be in the developer's mind from the second they start making their game now-a-days unless you're expected non-story related missions that are just tossed in there. Those days of DLC are gone, and it should stay that way in my opinion. I rather DLC that has some meaning/weight to it that can be intricately woven into the game rather than, for example, some random character asking to go fetch milk because the developers don't have a way of getting the player to do something meaningful due to the game's story.
could you be any more wrong. Fallout 3, new vegas, borderlands are all games that have awesome DLC that arent woven directly into the storyline, they offer their own storyline and points and add to the already fully featured game, instead of cutting chunks out so that you have to pay for the full story of the original.

Think first, then type.

I find that release day DLC only for customers that preordered a slap in the face of all the fans of the company. Its nothing more than a cheap tactic that isnt going to sell them more, it merely makes more preorders, and then pisses off the other consumers that refuse to preorder a product that they are questionable about. Then a few weeks after launch they open it for sale to make more money on the game for something that should have been included with the original purchase.

Hell DA2 takes place over an extremely large period of time. 10+ years. That is plenty of room to build up characters and other things that are not touched in the original story. Some that may involve the darkspawn, or entirely different adventures they went on. Which fits perfectly with the narrative they have going, where various people are telling the story from their point of view. Essentially the DLC could be them sitting at a table talking about old adventures together.

I am fine with buying DLC, but it needs to be worth it, and the original product needs to be the full game, which it is not obviously. an entire character and story was removed just like Shale was removed in the Original DA game. I wont fall for it again.

Geez this is ridiculous. Who in Activision is giving the dev team their marching orders? At the PAX '10 booth I was told it was the original team plus 1 other person who was doing DAII. I don't believe it to be Bioware devs making these fundamental decision about this.

What a bunch of crap.

Well I am only on my 2nd play through DA1 and I haven't even touched any of the additional content or the expansion so that will certainly be enough for me to ignore DAII completely.

BTW playing the demo at PAX was not very fun and it didn't feel like Origins at all. It was like Kenneth Branaugh's take an Streets of Rage.

But you are missing the point. Besedia didn't announce New Vegas before the original game was even released. Fallout III was made first, then the decision was made as to what was going into New Vegas. This announcement is completely different.

They made the game and are deciding what content they can cut and sell again.

Activision is doing the same thing that cocaine distributors do: They get a product and then they cut it up so they can sell more "content" and make a bigger profit.

This is coming from the same place as that crap in Origins if you bought the game second hand you had to buy an activation to play Warden's Peak and get Shale. Forget it! People with half a brain don't like being treated like Pinatas.

Oh please - you messed up, didn't read, and didn't know what you were talking about when you made your first post bashing it. No getting around it.

Woah, woah woah.
First off:
Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Borderlands are VERY different games. They're extremely open ended unlike the majority of games out there with a direct storyline. All 3 of those games were made from the beginning with DLC not only intended, planned, and even talked about before release but also with it already in the game if you will. Fallout 3 doesnt have one specific story it has hundreds! It's an open world game hence the appeal of it with alot of folks. It's mechanics already have DLC build in if you will. You can throw DLC anywhere in a game like those and it would fit.

Mass Effect 2 is a good example that proves my point.
They always intended from the beginning to put in story related DLC like Lair of the Shadow Broker. If they didn't intent for that from the beginning, it wouldnt be easy to integrate it into the game. It would probably never exist.

"Cutting content in order to sell it as an addon. Its sad."
It's not cutting content at all. It's creating ADDITIONAL content to be offered as incentive to preorder. No addon involved. XD

Actually no - it doesn't at all. It doesn't shoot down anything I've said.
Dragon Age is not a game like Fallout and how you even made a comparison like that to begin with is beyond me.

And infact it supports me because that allows for additional DLC to be created, because like you said - there are characters that can be expanded upon because the game takes place over a long period of time. If no DLC is intended, then chances are those characters you speak of would simply just be holes in the plot and nothing can be done to expand on them.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a good example of what I was saying. You can't make DLC for that because it was never intended. You can't fit anything in an airtight story without it being completely irrelevant like stupid VR missions. Either that or you just make up stuff and say it's real (paradoxes). Which developerss have done in the past.

Assassin's Creed 2 left a hole open in the timeline. They said in the game it was an Animus error.
That allowed them to fill that hole later with DLC. That would NOT BE POSSIBLE to add more DLC had they not intended for it because the hole would never exist.

When did i say it couldnt have DLC, all i ever said is that is bull that they are pulling content in order to gather sales, and then they will sell it to people to make money on something that should have been included with the original purchase.

I think you have a comprehension problem.

It doesn't matter jabrone. No game publisher announces the DLC before the game's released except Activision. They did it with Call of Duty also. They are just taking what the devs created and cutting it up into smaller bits they call "wholes" and then passing it off as newly developed content.

Post your pre-order confirmation for the game and the DLC. I really can't wait to see how many people will be disappointed with this game. If they are doing stuff like this now I'm sure the game will be a masterpiece.

The DAII demo at PAX was nothing like Origins. It was a pathetic beat'em up that was watered down more than ghetto Kool Aid.

ACTIVISION DID NOT PUBLISH THIS GAME. Bioware is owned by EA.

There is nothing wrong with announcing that they will be releasing DLC, i would prefer that they have dlc for a game, it means they plan on supporting the product. But i have a problem with cutting content just so you can charge for it when it should have been part of the game to begin with.
